Most of the small tour directors do so many tournaments they just go through the motions most of the time. The final is being played and they are busy packing up their stuff so they can get out of the place. Never announce the matches or ever tell anyone about the players. There used to be a tournament promoter Bill Steagall (sp?) who even with the smallest tournaments put on a show.

The final was always with the lights down with all the focus on the final table and he would referee in a beautiful suit, do a small speech introducing the players, you would think you were at a world championship. He put on a great show through the whole tournament spectators never wanted to leave and his tournaments always drew top players. Most of the tours run now are an incredible bore.

Evelyn and Danny Dysart. They are very, very good at what they do. (And such nice people ya just wanna puke)

Well, Scott Smith is a pro.

Helfert (never met him) gets 2 thumbs up.

I would bring to mind the Tiger/ Planet Pool Tour Crew- Nick, Cece, Andy. Always professional, running smooth events. The success of their events, IMO, is a direct result of the proficiency with which they host. Regular turnouts of 100+, the biggest # that I read about for any regular tour, they are obviously doing something right.
Now, what they need to do is buy a facility so that they can have them in their own space...get on it Tigers!

Eydie and Bob don't actually run their tournaments. I'd consider them promoters and organizers. John Stitch has run their tournaments in the past and he does an excellent job.

.... rip ....

Yup, that's right. I don't run any of my BIG events. I would have to be "Wonder Woman" to do all that, and besides, Linda Carter has title to that name! I have so many other issues to deal with during this event that it is impossible for me to pay attention at the tournament charts. Thanks for the compliment Mike!:D

John Stich from MN, is my tournament director along with Duane Tuula (IL) who has done an excellent job for me in the past. :D

Although, I do run all my smaller events that's like 256 players and under. In addition, I work for The Seminole Tribe of Florida for some events!

best tournament directors

As far as I am concerned there is no one that does a better job that Steve Tipton and Mark Wilson with the WPBA tour. I am very impressed with them.

Who are the tournament directors who can run multiple events (5-10) simultaneously with 300 or more players in an event?
Do they run them manually or do they use a computer?
Which events do they run?

Many of us can do this task. Bob and I can, Gary, Steve, Tommy, Mike, Mike John and more. Different devices are used but when push comes to shove, I like the old fashioned way... BIG tournament charts on the wall manually done. ;)

Did Bill Stigall die? I knew him from when we were kids in Ohio. He was originally from Mansfield and quite a player himself.

You and me both Eydie. I still post the charts and do the draw in front of God and everybody.

Stongly agreed, although it is Tipton who is the tournament director.

Steve is not just the best tournament director of today, but, in my opinion, the best of the last twenty five years.

It was only a week ago that he pulled off the BCA "Enjoypool.com" Open in Las Vegas, a monumental task involving coordination of a men's and women's pro event in the same venue at the same time. His work in managing 128 pros in competition was, as usual, masterful.

Before health problems forced him to retire, Joe Kerr started the show of professionalism in promoting and presenting pool tournaments in the 70's and 80's.
