Bet You've Never Seen a Cue Like This One!

This is a cool old cue made by Joe Thomas. Joe was around before Ernie started Ginacue. He was making cues before Abe Rich! The Bluebook says that Joe was actually up and running before Balabushka (even though theoretically George set up shop at around the same time). It says that Joe's competition was Rambow, Martin, and Paradise...

This cue is probably from the early seventies and is a window cue with a fluted handle. The cue weighs 21 oz., but feels a lot lighter due to the balance. The wood is finished with a hand rubbed French polish, and is very striking (pictures don't do it any justice).

Joe is still making cues (less than ten cues a year), and as this one was the first I've ever seen, I think it's pretty unique...

Anybody have anymore info?

Joe Thomas is also the reason why people in toldeo play good onepocket. He is an old hustler with way to many moves...................lol

Nice find .......My old drive around the woods.....Oh..Toodlittletado as we used to call it. I used to drive by an old billiards hall in the old north end...
I think it was off of either Central or Cherry St....I could drive right to the area if I had too....had a painted white with black letters wooden sign hanging off chains out front that looked like it had been there since WWII....down on the bottom of the sign I just remember it saying "Cues by Custom cuemaker Joe Thomas".
This was back in the 70's well before I even give thought to building cues. For some reason it just caught my eye and stuck in one of my three brain cells........doubt it's still there today.
Last I heard Joe is around 79-80 years young and still hanging at the "Glass City billiards club"(?) and giving 1P lessons to all the youngsters.

I was lucky enough to snatch one of his window cues back in the 80's...
Think I paid around $35 for it second hand.

That's a nice original cue. Do you think he has made 50 cues since the sixties ? I would really like to see more of them on this forum.

Thanks to all for your feedback and stories! I took the oldtimer out and hit a few balls with it. Very solid! Sounds like Mr. Thomas is a character that's been at it a long time.
