Anyone want to test out a new website I have been working on? I think it is ready for launch, but would really like a few other people to put it through the motions to see if it has any bugs.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't understand what the other drop down menu be age is for? One is 18-100 and the other one is ______?

a couple of problems for me

Mike,

The dreaded red X right above the survey about woman's pool and the text against the white background runs together at the bottom of it.

I am running a current version of Windows IExplorer.

This is the URL that is giving me just a red x. http://www.billiardsspace.com/ajax-poller/images/heading3.gif

Should be an age range search. The two fields are low age and high age.

Wonder why you are not seeing anything in the second box?

Great website and idea though. If it takes off, it will be great for those of us who don't know any players in our area.

cool site.....

:) Cool site, Mike!....another entry to my favorites!!!!!:)

screen capture sent

I e-mailed you a screen capture. I have only looked at the main page and opened a few links. I did try to locate a hall or player and that seems to be working although I didn't find any near me yet, no surprise.

Cool site. Very simple. The ads would be much better placed at the bottom. Not really a bug, but just a comment.

Nice site,I think it is needed. I registered and will use if there is anyone in my area or maybe passing by.

Couple of comments ment to be helpful.

1. Put in my ZIP 44455 and it shows me in Clarkson, Ohio. That town is the next town south of me. Never had that happen before.

2. I have a 9’ GC III at home. I usually play at home and might like to ask some people over after I get to know them or find a sufficient amount of info in their profile. Not sure how to address that and have talked it over with others who do not think it is possible to get the kind of info one might want before asking someone to one's home. However, I think there are many at home players who might be willing to have someone over. In the past I thought that age, photo ID, and some sort of residence / employment verification would be sufficient for some people. Really glad to see your site. I was thinking about starting a local site for home players but yours might do it in a different sort of way. That is, I could meet someone at a local hall and then determine if I wanted to invite them to play on competition level equipment at my house.

3. I think that you could use some sort of standard for skill level such as, "In 10 games of 8-Ball how often do you usually run a rack?" Similar queries could be used for other games.

4. To me the age thing is important. I have no desire to play with “kids” or ball bangers. However, any serious player is welcome. Not sure how to get some indication of seriousness. Perhaps something like how many hours do you usually play in any given week.

5. Money is also a touchy topic. I enjoy playing $5.00 for a race to 11 or $10.00 for 150 in 14.1 But I am not about to lose more than $20 - $30.00 in an evening. So saying that I play for money would not be a good idea if it led someone to think that I “gamble.” They would be disappointed.

I didn't get any pool rooms on the map. I hope you are pulling from a phone book database at least and not relying exclusively on user entries.

Sign up was easy.

It's a good idea but I think that something is missing. It needs the PoolRoom finder functionality of PlayPool.com and the personalization of PoolRooms.com.

Everything seemed to work that I tried. Not real fond of the big ads there but it's the way of the world these days to monetize "free" service. :-)

I like the "money games" option although I'd like to caution that this 'can' be an invitation to get set up for a robbery. Perhaps "Action" would be better as that is something all pool players understand but not all outsiders.

All in all though this could end up being a cool service.

I am pulling from a database of about 2500 rooms across the country.

I know that database is very incomplete and cross referencing it against all of the rooms represented in my tournament database is a top priority.

I am pretty familiar with playpool, but I will spend some time checking out poolrooms.com again to see how they are doing things.

I am not real pleased with the big google ad either. But that ad unit fits nicely and I didn't have any ads of that size from any existing advertisers.

Thanks for the feedback John.

John, did you really mean poolrooms.com?

I guess you will have to point me towards the personalization features because I don't see them yet.

Perhaps personal characterization is a better term. For example the entries are often well described as to whether it's an action room, a fun room, what kinds of tables are there, tournaments and so on.

Now, I didn't do your add-a-room thing so I am going to guess that it's possible to do the same on yours going that way Ok I see that it is.

Is is possible to add notes to existing rooms in your database? That would be a great feature. Also I'd like to see a list of rooms first with the option of viewing them on a map. Reason is because sometimes the maps load VERY slowly and then take a lot of time to redraw when you move around. Not real good when you just need to go down the list and make calls.

Anyway that's what I meant :-)
