Beta test a new website

Nice site, I am going to sign up here soon, my computer is acting sketchy on registration pages right now for some reason though.

Time to break open the computer and tinker around (god I do enough of this at work.....ugh)

Signed up, seems to be functioning good. I love the idea. And hey, that's not a bad logo either ;)

I tried signing up and it said my e-mail address was already used and screen name also, what's up with that?

good idea for a site, u might add other games to the options, bank pool/snooker, u also might add on there if u are an azb member or not, if people could see how u post on here that'd be more useful to me than a picture, if u put a pic up and an honest description of how/what/where u play then you would be a known and any unknown could exploit that, if u really wanted to gear it for action players u could ask some stats like most $ u played for per set/game biggest $ won in a tourney etc.

if it is your site u could link it to azb and if people found it first the sites would be mutually beneficial, i don't like how it still has a login screen after i'm logged in, also didn't see anything telling me i'm logged in, and if all the members are on your profile the member #'s are off, u are member #1 and the next member is #825

also would like a way to locate tourneys and maybe u could also do something for cue repair/dealers/room owners anything to draw in more users

Nice site. I was able to sign-up without any problems.

I had no problems with navigation. The Google map is a little clunky but once you get used to it, things seem okay.

Thanks for putting it up.

Couple of other things that I thought of this morning.

I would post a photo of my table / room for those interested in playing. I seriously think that "home players" could be a whole set of users on your site. Some of these people are serious players, seldom go to halls or bars, and often have exceptionally nice equipment. I think that if they could be brought into the pool playing world on their own turf it would expand the market considerably.

Posting one's playing ability could be an option. It would tell me a lot about players I could ignore if they are not willing to state their playing ability.

You could have some sort of handicapping system, where a player could determine his own handicap in various games. There are several out there. I wrote one for Olympic 9-Ball that I would send if you are interested. OTOH, stating how many racks of X game one can run out of ten racks is a type of handicapping system in itself.

Personally I would like to see the guy's photo in the profile if not the avatar.

Given all of these things it might be helpful to tell the user some of the advantages and disadvantages of posting information. Perhaps an FAQ is needed here.

I have been on the net since the 1980s and had one of the fist BBS for criminal justice professionals. I have never had problems with identity and most of my credentials including photo name, address, phone, etc are readily available to anyone. (I did have one small problem a few years ago when someone used my name and degree to sell off shore perscriptions, but it was easily stopped). All this is by way of saying identities on the net need not be the problem that some make them out to be. To me it is no different than being in the telephone book, with a little extra information.

When I am about to meet some guy via friends or relatives one of my first questions is, "What does he do for a living?" I think it is a guy thing. Tell me what a man does and you tell me a lot about the man. I may be surprised later that my friend a "truck driver" is a gourmet cook and likes classical music (true description) but that is the exception -- and for the most part he is who I thought he would be. So knowing what a guy does for a living tells me a lot. You know more about me when you learn that I am a university professor and a psychologist by training.

I realize that your site is not "for men" but most of your users will be men so it would be a good idea to orient along those lines, you probably already knew that but may not have thought more about the things men like.

Cool site! Just signed up...I'll take a look throughout the day and test it out here and there.

I am in.. When entering my Zip, it comes up with a different city, but one that is close?? Oh well.

Looks like a great idea!

OK, I see what you are talking about now. I currently don't have a system in place for allowing users to comment on rooms, but that is a very good idea. If I kill the google maps thing, then there would be all kinds of room for that.

What do others think? Is the google maps overkill? I can easily rip that code out and just offer it as a link at the bottom.

Perhaps personal characterization is a better term. For example the entries are often well described as to whether it's an action room, a fun room, what kinds of tables are there, tournaments and so on.

Now, I didn't do your add-a-room thing so I am going to guess that it's possible to do the same on yours going that way Ok I see that it is.

Is is possible to add notes to existing rooms in your database? That would be a great feature. Also I'd like to see a list of rooms first with the option of viewing them on a map. Reason is because sometimes the maps load VERY slowly and then take a lot of time to redraw when you move around. Not real good when you just need to go down the list and make calls.

Anyway that's what I meant :-)

One other user had a problem like that, but he was using his username to try to log in instead of his email address.

What screen name were you trying to use?

Having a link to google maps would probably be better. And then just have the default page be a list of all the room, sorted by distance.

Well, you can push a list of locations at Google Maps and have it display a vertical list on one side, with pins on the map to the right in the right spots. Might be a nice middle ground.

I started tinkering with a site like this a couple of years ago but never went anywhere with it. Good luck with it Mike!

I signed up, put a video on my page. I think more layout options, or a more friendly interface for layout options would be cool. Also, how do we find out what the URL to our page is?

Anyone want to test out a new website I have been working on? ...
One of the local rooms it listed came up with no name on the map.

Some time ago a similar site was started called "Ladders Online" which kept track of match performance and handicaps. I think it handicapped several different kinds of games. The handicap algorithm was similar to the NPL (and USCF) method.

If the site takes off, I was thinking a state based ladder might be fun.
