better than Efren

Oh, now it all makes sense. I've asked previously about the top players in the Philippines when Efren was younger, and the name Ramon "Champion" came up, but they gave the last name Brobio. Ramon Brobio is a golfer, isn't he?


Other names I got was Jun Quiapo in the 60's and Bagiou Boy in the 70's. What was their story?

Sorry but I don't really follow golf here anymore and my knowledge about it
stopped at Ben Arda.LOL I don't personally know Jun and Boy Baguio but have only heard about them. Andam, Efren of the South, raped Luzon when he first got here so I wouldn't think that Jun and Boy Baguio were in the upper eschelon.

Yes it does but why is it that people are more accepting and interested when it's the former American greats that are talked about? Every country has former champions that the rest of the world wants to know about too. And am pretty sure that the former greats of the Philippines is of interest to many because its just unbelivable that there was somebody better than a Legend of the sport, ER.

Like I said in another thread, the bar of excellence when it comes to playing is constantly raised through the passage of time. Todays youth are better than youth, of the same age, of yesteryears. Their future will depend on how battle hardened they'll be.

According to Efren he retired Boy Quiapo.
I was at Efren's house the day Mark Wilson called Efren about the COM in Hong Kong.
Efren and his kumpare were doing the karaoke and some brandy.
Efren got going and told the story about Boy Quiapo. Efren offered Boy 71-49.
Boy Quiapo said he'd quit if he lost to Efren with that spot.
Well, he lost.

Perhaps people in the Philippines are more interested in their former
greats than in people like Buddy Hall or Allen Hopkins?
I would guess that people in Canada are more interested in following
Steve Nash than Yao Ming or Dirk Nowitsky.

I'm interested in Earl the Pearl !!! Earl and Effie's classic rivalry in the color of money match was the best display of pool I had ever seen! It was like Good Versus Evil or maybe Good turned Evil I guess !

Was the so-called Boy Baguio was the same kid that Effie and Busty played at the Hyatt during the 80's ? If he was that one who played them, then info about the guy is that he didn't finish his college years because of playing to much pool. A colleague of mine says that whenever he comes late during class hours, he's covered with talc powder and most often than not, slept for the duration of the class period. the cause of this sleepiness was a result of an all-night money gaming. regarding his whereabouts now, I don't know for sure cause that is only what my colleague told me. That colleague of mine was a friend of Boy Baguio. Maybe the same Boy Baguio and maybe not !
