Beware of scammers! Almost got me

I posted a reply to a cue for sale. The Seller will remain nameless as he was legit after talking to him on the phone.

I made an offer in the reply, and got an email asking if I was the one that was interested and he would take the offer. Great! We emailed back and forth a few times and then when it came to arranging payment he gave me an email for a different email and name.

I reached out to the original seller, went to his webpage and called, and the emails i was getting were not from him! Please be careful. There should be now way that members of this group should have been able to get my email address, that just opens people up to getting scammed.

Watch out for James Witsel jwitsel20@gmail.com. HE IS A SCAMMER
His Zelle info is Chiquitinababy186@gmail.com Elizabeth Zayas. <<< SCAMMER

Let me guess, you're using completely uninsured payment methods and now you're complaining about almost being scammed?

Use PayPal Goods and Services. The transaction is insured. Then you just ship to whatever the address says in paypal. There's 0 chance you'll be scammed as the seller.
No, I didnt send any money. What I was warning about is that there is somehow a way to get AZBilliards members emails from their accounts. So while I posted on the form asking a question about a product, I got an email giving me an "answer".

I didnt fall for anything, but some other people might

Did you reply with your email address in a comment?

I have had the same happen to me on three separate occasions here. I have never shared my email on this site, and have still gotten these.

Jamie and Richard are two names to watch out for. They cruise both the for sale and wanted forums ... offers you can't refuse and want you to use friends and family.

As soon as I mentioned using paypal insured, there was some discomfort. Then I suggested they take the cue to post office and send CoD ... they didn't like that option.

Jamie tlod me he had sent the cue Fedex, but it crashed and the cue was stolen. Asked him for the # and he sent a false one.

SCUM of the earth.

It's in a post you made, you asked someone to text you about a Cynergy. I found that in about 5 seconds.

Don't post your information publicly

I wouldn’t post any of my info On publicity site, and also, please ask to video live chat to the other person. Whether you buy or sell, please get into a habit doing video live chat, if they really a good seller, they wouldn’t say no. And if the person buying, it’s also a great way for you to build that rapport and gain trust.

There are ways we can al make ourselves much smaller targets for scammers and, I too, amd happy the op's red flags went up before getting had.

I will add myself to the list of those whose email was used in an effort to scam me. It originated here on az and I didnt provide my email but the scammer found it. If you have an online presence, it is not terribly complicated for people wioth bad intentions to get our email addresses and other personal info.

Among the ways to avoid becoming a victin would be to confirm that the person you are dealing with actually has the item and a real, working telephone number so you can do a video chat with them and see what you are buyung. In my experience, the vast majority of scammer either do not have the item and/or do not have a hone number they are willing to share.

Using PayPal F&F option leaves the buyer with no recourse so unless you are 100% comfortable with the seller then you should uyse G&S and if needed, you can add the approx 3% service fee. And when paying with the G&S option, try to fund the purchase with a credit card so there is an additional layer of protection. Using zelle, cashap, etc, know that you are gambling.

best,
brian kc

Those are all excellent suggestions. I too had that happen the exact same way. Other guys I've talked to said they didn't want to offend the seller and possibly risk the sale by asking for the layers of protection you spoke of. Like a verifiable phone # or any of that. Nobody wants to offend, ya know?? Unfortunately online purchases kinda force the issue. Old school guys need to know that it's ok to insist on protections to make sure they don't get screwed. Besides, if they get upset, chances are you'll have probs with them one way or the other b4, during, or after the sale. Hope that makes sense.
