ceebee. that is all correct and i agree with you so no discrepancy there.
but those stats from at large are for pros. and certainly pros having the best break is a giant advantage in their long term results.
but for the average player the break gives very little advantage if any, in his winning percentage. so my post points to spending that money and time on other aspects of your game first.
having a good break is also an ego builder so that may have an effect that cant be quantified.
now having a good break in one pocket is a different story. it helps the weaker player more than the better player to have a good break.
Stats are used to show us comparisons & directions. At Large's Info is not all about PROS, it's about people & cultures. In my Pool Hall, they couldn't care about the Break Shot. In Van Boeing's pool Room, it may be all they talk about.
I have to keep asking myself, why anyone would want to learn how to play a game, but not concern themselves with the 1st Shot in that game. If Pro Golfers didn't have great Tee Shots (Drives), there wouldn't be any PRO GOLF.

If a player never does well on the break shot, his chances to improve, are already dismal. If he starts downing a ball on the break, his chances of making a few balls, start to rise, to that day he runs his first RACK. But, without the hint of a Break Shot, that day will never come...
You can't do well on the 2nd Shot, if you didn't do well on the 1st Shot.
