I believe in having lots of layers. Cues, watches, cars, etc. Sure those can all be losers-but not always. Realestate has cost me millions more than it’s made me. Cars I’ve made way more than I’ve lost(spent). One thing I can say with almost 100 % certainty is that the stock market will be ripped off again.
At least if you have your money in cues or coins or scrap metal, it is always worth something, stocks can be worth nothing overnight and all a person can do is light cigars with them. Or weigh theirpockets down , when they jump off cry baby bridge. I don't know why that is such a funny image to me , it just is I guess. Wish I was an artist!
Consider yourself lucky, I spent 30 minutes writing a diatribe about the stock market wall street and Bill Clinton and his pals, but I erased it . I forgot, its a conspiracy theory, even though it is all well documented, wikipedia basically says nothing he did changed anything, then they asked 20 times for money, I said no thanks 20 times, I can get propaganda free all day longA few of you boys need to rest...its late. I like to sleep in the room I store my collection in, it works like Melatonin.![]()
You must have a pile of eraser crumbs. Yes Wikipedia is useful and I do feel guilty not helping them out. It is hard for me to spend money on anything not shaped like a pool cue.Consider yourself lucky, I spent 30 minutes writing a diatribe about the stock market wall street and Bill Clinton and his pals, but I erased it . Try ice creme. Doesn’t look like a cue and they get most of my $You must have a pile of eraser crumbs. Yes Wikipedia is useful and I do feel guilty not helping them out. It is hard for me to spend money on anything not shaped like a pool cue.
Probably losing value dailyWhat do you think if a collector has 50 Gus’ cues, are they keeping them for as an investment, love for the cue(maker) or both? And on high end vintage custom cues, if you sit on them for too long and generations change, do they still hold their value if the buyer generation is gone too? It seems the younger players are not familiar with good ol’ vintage cues anymore, it’s all CF now.
Probably Marty HermanDon't know him.

I am 37 and have been dabbling in cue collecting and trading for a few years now. I have around 30 cues at any given time, about 5 I will never sell. The rest are considered liquid in my mind. I am in touch with a lot of guys local to me who deal in cues, it seems that not many care about cues from the 60s and 70s much (in my local scene anyway). I appreciate them for what they are, but there is no was I would drop $15k+ on a Gus'. I can get a classicly designed cue from the current custom cue makers for a quarter of the price, and be, IMO, just as beautiful. Owning a name never made much sense to me. It seems to that cues like Tasc, Carmelli, Nitti, Scruggs, etc. are way easier to move. I buy, sell, and collect cues for fun. Sure, I make a little $$$ here and there but it is something that I really enjoy....If I am just "filling holes", then so be it.Probably losing value daily
Those you named never go up in value, you take a loss the day you buy them if buying new.I am 37 and have been dabbling in cue collecting and trading for a few years now. I agree completely. Having said that... if anyone wants to provide me with $ 50,000 worth of cues I will change my mind faster than a knife fight in a phone booth.I like pool and nice cues as much as the next guy .... But I wouldnt have $50k in cues even if they were bought with somebody else's money

You can make money if you get them right used

Point is when a person has their holdings spread out. One goes up, one goes down. All ok. Ideally it all goes up. Inflation hedges are important as well.
Discipline to live with in your means and if you don’t like your means, then change something.
Have the balls to take chances.
Not be completely lazy. I’m pretty lazy.
All that adds up to outrunning the problems life throws at you, with a bit of good luck in there.
Health is another consideration that takes other measures of discipline.
End of the day, luck matters
