Bill and Dan.. JOSS circa 1971

A lot of people don't know just how good Bill played the game. He was one of if not the best player in Dallas in the '60s. I saw him play in Tulsa around '88 and was very impressed with his 1p game. He played one of the best in town and beat him pretty good.
Our BCA 8 ball team/Wizards.
Billy's year end win percentage was over 900.
During those years, there were more 8 ball teams in CO than any other state.
Our team consisted of, myself, Scott Smith, Jr Harris, Stroud, Bret Smith (Scotts brother) and Karl Nelson.

My brother in law had a Joss. Really liked everything about that cue. He could hit 'em pretty good, RIP.

Just for grins...feeble attempt at colorization. Did not know the woods/wraps, so just left as is. More of a big picture feel than the details.

You're sooo good, Kors. Your "feebles" with any documents or images are better than most folks who do it for a living.

Seeing that tusk, reminded me of one Bill had in his closet. About 5' in length, mid eighties.

Thank you for the compliment! I’m glad you enjoy my efforts. I’m just a hobbyist, but we are all so used to color photos, I sometimes see an important picture that I think some folks might look at closer if it were in color.

I appreciate the originals, as I am a historical purist, but I’m also a realist at the same time.

Great picture! Thanks for sharing. My first Joss cue looks like the 3rd from the left (next to the tusk). Got it in 1983.
Traded a cheap 2-piece cue and $140...got cue and Fellini case with it. Love that cue! Still playing with it today.
In the early 2000's, I met Bill at the Expo and arranged to ship my cue out to him to replace the ivory joint (it had cracked) and clean it up.
He said he could build me a couple new shafts if I wanted, but I declined. A mistake on my part. Never followed up on it.
Would have been nice to have some newer shafts to rotate in with the originals.

Very cool to see the old pics. Thanks again.

Wow what a great collection ❤️😍🥰🙏🥂

nothing 'political' about it. There was JOSS and JossWest.(We called 'em JOSH also. lol) From Baltimore Bill went to Aspen then to Tulsa then back to Colo.Springs. Moved to Austin and ended up in NewMexico, Santa Fe iirc. Wish i'd bought a truckload while he was here in town. ;)
All correct, except they went to Ruidoso, NM, not Santa Fe.

never seen that. Will Prout probably has. Hell, he might own it. The Jerry Wiley box-cue on that card i posted i've hit . Pretty but too heavy.
I’ve seen the cue with diamonds several times, it is owned by a gentleman in Colorado.
Last I knew he was trying to sell it.

I posted these about seven years ago. This is an early 70s review of Joss Cues, then would have been Dan Janes and Tim Scruggs. Enjoy.
