Bill McDaniel Cues

Do any of you have any advice regarding the playability of McDaniel cues, particularly those with an ivory joint?

Bill's cue all play the same-fantastic! He designed his S/S joint with a coushion insert to make them play like his Ivory jointed cues. Bill is retired and no longer makes cues. He sold his name to a couple in the Chicago area and they made a breif and unsuccessful go at continuing cues with his name. The cues from his shop the last 15 years were made by two loyal employees with Bill's oversight. The two,Jess June and Tommy Clements, have bought all of the equipment and designs from the couple and are in the process of producing their own cues. The quality of Bill's work, especially his later work, was beyond compare. The work was as good as or better that anybody. Bill's cues never brought what they were worth for various reasons, but the quality, playability, and apealing look were never in question. Many pros won world championships with Bill's cues in hand.

I am sorry but can only comment on metal joint. I have a Q-8 and I can't even begin to explain how pure the hit is of this cue. I have over the years owned many cues and for the money it hits fantastic as mentioned before. Feedback is phenominal and draw, spin and connection is true and even deflection is low. It playes very similar to my predator 3k5 with 314-2 shaft yet with less of a stiff feel to it. My girlfriend gets on me every time I think of selling this cue because of its pure hit and beauty. DOn't get those kinds of gals too often lol. Any way why do you want an ivory joint out of curiosity?

Bill's cues are overly under rated! They play consistantly great. The ivory jointed custom cues he most recently made are fantastic. Workmanship is impeccable, shafts are completely interchangeable from cue to cue and match perfectly. And they are a real value. Where can you find a quality custom cue with over 150 ivory inlays for under $4K? Check out IndyQShop. He has a couple of real beauties for sale.

Qj09

Is anyone familiar with this cue? Did Bill McDaniel actually make this cue? If not, when was it made, and by whom?

McD

I also play with a McD Q-8 and I absolutely love this cue. I use an OB shaft and it plays as solid as any cue I've ever owned. I would definitely recommend getting one if you have the opportunity.

That is a really nice cue but I would bet it was made by either the apprentices working with Bill or the people that made a go of using his name. I had several of his cues I purchased from a friend of his in the 1990s and none of them were similar to that cue and I see that cue for sale at several internet dealers. Probably still a really nice cue, I think the design is very clean.

Just want to clear up a few things about Bill's cues. Every Bill McDaniel cue ever made was made in Jackson,TN. The couple who bought Bill's name never produced a cue. The few made under the new owners auspices were in fact made by the same guys that have always made Bill's cues.I think a total of 6 cues can be attributed to the new owners. The cue in question here was designed for Judy Jou by Bill and nicknamed the "rain" cue. All cues with the J designation were J&J propriatary cues. The QJ-99 is one of the most striking cues made by Bill.
As I mentioned before, the quality, playability, and the asthetic appeal of Bill's cues are second to none. His loyal following included Nick Varner(won the world 9-ball championship with Bill's cue) Karen Corr,Kung Fang Lee,Rodney Morris,Julie Kelly,Morro,Santos Sambajon(sic) and many others.Even the youth movement favored Bill's cues with Landon Shuffet sporting an Ebony masterpiece.
From inlaid Diamonds to the Sterling Silver Bracelet I am so fond of,Bill consistantly produced the finest cues you will ever see. The Romeo and Juliette cues were probally the finest of the stellar Master cue maker's work.
Everyone forgets the influence and guidence he had in some of the most revered cuemakers here on AZ= Tim Scruggs and Tony S. of BlackBoar. These guys would not be where they are today if not for Bill.

I was told Bill did not do the newer stuff.

Sorry
Nick :)
Nick,Any cue with Bill's logo was (there was a time when he did'nt use a logo) "done" by him. He always had complete oversight and did the final inspection of all his cues. You can not show me one example of a cue made by Bill that was less than perfect. That was his hidden trademark. Lest you think he was a one trick pony, like many cue makers, here is an example of some of his game calls. These are some of the most sought after calls in the world.

I got the privledge to play with a titanium jointed custom Mcdaniels. Bill spoke over the phone like a gentleman while my friend tryied to pick his brain. We also had the schick and balabuska on the table at the same time. If its what you want buy it. its only money his rep. is spotless!

Under appreciated

No doubt Bill Mcdaniels cues are very under appreciated. His cues play fantastically and the inlay work is flawless. The ivory piloted joint cues are my favorite. Super nice guy also. I love his Szamboti styled cues like the two that are for sale on Indyq.com and cueaddicts also always semm to have one for sale.
