Billiard Ball Set Manufacturers

Is there a thread or somewhere I can go to read about the different ball manufacturers and how they differ from each other? What makes this set better than that set and so on. Thanks for the help guys!

I hope like hell that Aramith is the #1 mfgr. If not, I just bought the wrong set

There is a German mfgr. that builds 9 ball sets that must be good, last set I saw , on here, for 9 balls went for $300!!

and they didn't even have numbers!!

(laughing). That set was a raschig. That company went out of business 15 years ago or somewhere around there. They are a collector item more then being better than anything else.

I bought those because they were the first set I played with when I started playing = mid life crisis.

I can't say Brunswick Centenials are "The Best" but they are awful close, and you may find this of interest if you like this sort of thing,,,

In that vein, a person could go Burnswick as well since both brands are made by Saluc to a slightly different spec.

And Saluc owns Aramith. As said before, Aramith is all you need to know. I agree that the Centennials are the top of the line.

I shoot my cheap Elephant balls in just fine. I don't see a difference. I win no matter what balls are on the table. A matter of fact, I don't even know what kind of balls are on all tables. I just shoot and win.:thumbup:

I initially bought a cheap set of Vigmas and those balls wore out quite quickly, especially the cue ball. By wear out, I mean lost their luster. When balls lose their luster, their friction increases and their throw increases. In my pool room a few of the players there have their own sets of Super Pros and play with these balls heavily every day. These sets are over 10 years old, and I was present for a polishing session and they returned to like new condition after the cleaning. Even the house set of Aramith standard balls have been also used heavily every day for over 30 years and still didnt look as worn as my cheap set. I've since sold that set of Vigmas and bought a set of Aramith Tournament balls. Best purchase I've made. Don't settle for anything other than Aramith.

Agreed on the "Aramith is all you need to know" -- with one minor change: "Saluc is all you need to know" (since Saluc owns Aramith, and also manufactures the Brunswick Centennials).

I beg to differ. Brunswick Centennials are as good or better than Aramith in my opinion. I believe both are made by Saluc.

Aramith billiard balls are top of the line. Brunswick Centenials are good also.
