Knoxville Billiards at 3920 Chapman Highway is truly a place of legends.

Though it provides family fun and games for all ages to enjoy and offers a great cheeseburger and fries at a low price, there is more than just fun and food happening.

The main thing you will see when visiting Knoxville Billiards is serious pool played by seasoned players.

“We are known as a serious place in the billiard community outside of Knoxville,” says Bill Gray Jr., manager of Knoxville Billiards.

At the entrance to the pool hall, a wall is filled with signed photographs of pool heroes like Knoxville’s own two-time all-around world champion Eddie “The Knoxville Bear” Taylor and Grady “The Professor” Mathews, who was inducted into the One-Pocket Hall of Fame in 2004. Gray can tell tales of each of the visiting players, some of whom stayed for months to play in their renowned facilities.

“I used to come here when I was 18 years old,” says Gray, whose father took over ownership of Knoxville Billiards in 2003 when the previous owner was selling the business. “These guys you see playing today, I have known for 25 years. It’s like, once you are a customer, you are always a customer!”

The pool hall has 11 tables to choose from, including six 9-foot tables and one 8-foot table. One of its most popular tables with pro players is an antique wooden classic that is 100 years old. All 11 tables in the facility come affordable for playing.

Billy Gray remembers the legends who used to come into Knoxville Billiards, whose pictures now adorn the wall. I remember the Knoxville Bear. :)

How cool is that to have a cue station in a pool room for cue repairs! Not all pool rooms have this and must rely on visiting cue mechanics to visit.

Man, I love a pool room that has good food -- and breakfast! Wow! Open 24/7.

This place reminds me of my "home" Pool Hall, The Jointed Cue, in Sacramento, CA.
Tons of Pool History, Legendary Players, Great Tournaments, and Fantastic Food ...
Their Cheeseburgers & Fries are Legendary, and their Breakfasts are Off the Charts !

I have personally ate many a great cheese burger and fries there over the last 20 years. I enjoy cocktails with my pool game and life in general so I have not played an excessive amount of pool there but some. Used to run a pool tournament at the bar next door for a few years a few years ago. Don't currently live there but over the holidays I take about three weeks off and visit family and I enjoyed my breakfast/brunch cheese burger and fries several times a week.

I did see Keith once at maryville billiards (about 30 or 45 mins away) some guy named Dana owned it and it was something different to say the least. It was around the time of the OJ Simpson original drama best I can recall. I believe he was trying to make proposition bets with not to many takers. I heard a high school buddy of mine played him some nine ball at some point and broke even.

anyway, good to see them get some publicity. I don't think they've been open for 24 hours in a while though. See you guys over the holidays again.

Thanks for the color on the article. Billy Gray and his family are really cool people.

Sounds just like Keith, the proposition bets. He met his fate, though, when he came to Baltimore and propositioned all takers to throw a coin. Baltimore, in case nobody knows, has the best coin throwers in the world. Keith was barbecued. :embarrassed2:

It only hurt a little bit. :grin-square:
