billiard shooting glasses?

usually when players choose to use a single vision for pool/billard, it's because they don't like the postural changes due to the progressives.

I dunno if the website (dr harrisson?) makes the adjustement. If you still got the prescription of your current progressives, then when ordering all you haveto do is to send him the modified RX. (add +0.25) .
(be carefull to not modify the astigmastism value when existing, but only the spherical RX)
feel free to PM if you need some help , would probably be easier.

Talk With Your Eye Doctor.....GLAD I DID!!!!!

Four months ago I had to have my eye examination prescription renewed. I went to my eye doctor, did the normal chit chat about how ya been etc., and I brought up the subject of playing pool wearing my distance eye glasses and regretted that I experienced a loss of clarity playing rail shots due to the closer focusing range.

He asked me what far away was the general vision clarity I was looking for and I expalined my pool table stance. He took me into a nearby conference room and had me place my car keys on the conference room table to represent a cue ball. I assumed a shooting stance and he estimated I 'd need approximately two feet of distance clarity for close sots off the rail or a masse shot and he then fiigured I need up to an additional 10 feet fo distance clarity for a table length shot since I mostly play on 9' tables. We went returned to his eye examination room.

We already had completed my eye test before we ventured into exploring my pool glasses. He then had me put on a set of eye glass farmes that had removable lenses which were stored in a nearby separate tray. He alternately kept swapping lenses and experimented to come up with the best combination of lense sterngths blending my new reading gasses prescription and my new distance glasses prescription. He explained that he was simply trying to come with an optimum prescription recipe for maximum clarity at distances up to 10-12 feet away and as close as 2 feet away. When I got the glasses, I rushed to the pool hall to see.

I first put on my new reading glasses and sure enough, clarity was sparkling clear for a close shot. I even shot a couple of pool balls to see how they worked. I then did the exact same thing with my new distance glasses that I use for everyday life. As expected, clarity for table length shots was spectacular but close shots left something to be desired. Then I tried the new pool glasses to see if there was any difference.............................WOW.....OH MY GOD.....I WAS BLIND AND NOW CAN SEE........REALLY THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE.

I can't adequately convey how incredible these glasses are....clarity is exceptional for close shots and incredible for long shots. I don't know what recipe my eye doctor came up with but the prescription he gave me does read different than my other prescriptions. But it really has elevated my pool game or let's say rejuvenated it. I'm playing as good as I ever did in my life and with fifty years of playing experience, I'm now considered by a lot of the local players as someone to ask for help or advice. Well, I don't know a friigin' thing more in pool than I did yesterday but now that I can see and can make the shot...well, let's put it this way, if you can't make the shot, then any advice you might offer becomes pretty meaningless.

I'm now playing Course Levels 8 & 9 in Target Pool and scoring pretty good too....not like Kim Davenport's average score average for those Course Levels but I'm still consistently scoring points at an advanced level for this game. I didn't stand of chance of playing that game very well at even Level 3 until I got the new pool eyewear. If you need eye glasses to shoot better pool, make sure to discuss your needs with a good eye doctor and then take the time to find the right frame. Lens Crafters had the best selection of sporty looking frames in a variety of shapes and colors too.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Matt

I went to Lens Crafters and bought a Ray Ban Sunglasses Frame that Ray Ban would make custom lenses for. The eye glass frame is a partial wrap around and has good height so you don't hardly see any outline of the eye glass frame when you aim. I even considered going with a clear frame like shooting glasses which ray Ban can make in a prescription. But I wanted something less conspicuous looking, comfortable, and something with style...almost went with a black farme Aviator frame, but found something more appealing. There were some knock-out looking Oakley frames I almost went with.

The whole deal cost me $358 with precription lenses and the new ray Ban frame. I'm telling everyone right now....there is hope if you have to wear glasses tos hoot pool. Find an eye doctor that cares and listens....this guy has been my doctor for the past fifteen years and when I told him what I needed, he went out of his way to assist me.....maybe because I've been his patient so long or maybe he bends over backwards to try helping all of his patients.....I dunno and really don't care. I'm just delighted he took time to help me solve a nagging problem that's been getting worse the past twenty years. I'm now 66 yeras old and started weraing eyeglasses for the first time when I turned 43 yeras old. Had to strta usinbg them at work for the computer and from there's its gradually been downhill ever since. And if you wear eyeglasses, then you know how your pool game suffers as your vision worsens with age. It's unavoidable for most of us but I found the fountain of youth again......a eye precription just for playing pool.

:( I can't use them!. Gordon is going to make me another pair.
Everything is fine until I look thru the upper portion(at the object ball) of the lens. The ball looks like an egg. No fix for it.
He is going to remake them without the progressive lenses.
Oh well! Back to the drawing board ! :o

Can you post a picture of yours please? I am having a hard time visualizing what they look like. And thanks for the post. Great info.

Shaky,

I thought you got Lasik, how did it go?

Well, both good and bad! I can see better now than I could before without glasses. I need to have both eyes redone around April.
I had to drop out of the league on the 9 footers because I can't make a ball and it became not fun at all!
I can still play pretty good on the bar box tables though.
My eyes were so bad to begin with that the Doctor said it might take two lazerings to correct them. I have a bad astigmatism that is slowly returning.
It seems like every day is a new adventure right now, the way they are still changing! Not much I can do, other than wait till April and see what happens. :frown:

I think I know what those are. When you put the glasses on, the markings are in fact a brand new technology which allows the glasses to visually connect with your brain and give you perfect aiming. I think there's even a more advanced version which shows projections of any shot you want in your mind before you shoot. I must get myself one of those!
