Billiards Books.

Hey,

Quick Question- What are Pool Books? Are they books that have shots, drills, etc for beginners to practice on? What would be a good one for someone whose got about 5 months under his belt and where can I get it? In the FS here on AZ?

anything by robert byrnes is good. It has drills, fundamentals, shotmaking.etc.

Google his name you should find some. Also every pool merchandise website has books and dvds for sale. rockwell, cheapcues etc

Barnes and nobles or boarders have a small selection as well.

A better question would have been "What is the best".

Like the other guy mentioned, Byrnes books are great. There is a poster on here, Blackjack, that has an awesome 9ball book to if you like that game.

In my little world, these are the only books that matter (google them);

Pleasures of Small Motions
99 Critical shots (full title?)

I'm dying to get a copy (or just read the copy a kid I know in the pool hall has) of Winning 1P or w/e it's called.

I'm in the middle of reading "Play your best 9-ball" too, at a pace of about 1 chapter every 6 months. I'll give you guys a review in a few years.

Forgot about that gem, "the 99 critical shots in pool" by rooster reeves and ray martin

Great book.

My book Lessons In 9 Ball is available in the link in my signature. It has several drills, and was written so that players of all levels would get something out of it.

It s available in e-book, hard cover, and spiral notebook - I recommend the spiral notebook version so that you can take it to the pool hall with you and lay it flat on the table. It has many drills, covers the mental game, safeties, training, the break, reading the rack, etc.

Also, if you need any further instruction or have any questions, you can contact me here on the forum every single day.

I think the best advice is to go to a large bookstore nearby (e.g., Barnes&Noble) and look through the pool books on the shelves, and judge for yourself.

I just sold over $2500 worth of pool books @ 35 cents on the dollar
the few that I kept are:

99 Critical Shots in Pool - Ray Martin
Pleasures of Small Motions - Bob Fancher
Banking with the Beard - Freddy the Beard
The Pocket Billiards Textbook - Richard P. Beverly
Winning One Pocket
Shots, Moves, & Strategies - Both by Eddie Robin

I hope this helps you save some money
 
Hey, good stuff! thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into it. I primarily play 8 and 9 ball but I do fool around with straight pool, 10 ball, and one pocket sometimes. Just looking for anything that will help me improve consistency.

If you play 9-ball...you can't go wrong w/ this book. I'm only half way through it and i feel like I've made some pretty dramatic improvements already. Especially in my break.
 
i like just about everything phil capelle has written. there're drills and examples of how great players have gotten out of tough racks. interesting statistics. like according to accustats the guy who breaks loses 60% of the time. i think i read that in one of his books
