Billiards game in the Keys leads to man being attacked with pipe wrench

In the 70s I used to play in key West a lot. There was a lot of action down there in those days. You had to be careful of locals though. They often carried guns and always knives. I remember playing in the Boat bar one night.

The guy I was playing looked like a pirate and was wearing a sword. It's funny, I had a player from NY with me and he was scared to death. He would not stay and I had to drive him back to Miami the next morning.

Great memories of the keys. One night I was playing with Peter Fonda and Warren Oats and Margo Kidder was also there. They all went out to my motor home and were smoking pot. You can find the movie they were making on Roku. I think the name was called 92 in the Shade. The bar we were playing in is the movie. The Cow Key Marine bar.
I lived in Key West in the 1980's. There was no shortage of dirt balls down there, who always seemed to be looking for trouble. And drugs were everywhere, too.

mods might want to take this thread off the site until its found out.
Jam posted the pictures of the actual suspect. She wanted us to compare those to the mugshot.

It's a sticky. Real stuff.

This was about the same time the cue builder Edwin Reyes was assassinated in front of his children. No justice there either. I was pushing for it for awhile but unfortunately this was leading to real danger to other good people there and I had to back off. Money and power still let you get away with murder in the Philippines. Edwin got involved in politics and didn't have enough of either.

Hu

At the front door I recall. Brutal stuff.

Closest I came to being attacked, I played a truck driver on a regular basis 9 ball. He had a pretty sporty game, but he was always cocky and insulting. The last set I played him, I finished it 9-0. He looked at me with rage in his eyes and I said "You want me to book you an easier game?" If flames could come out of his ears, it would have.

Then you know some of the places. There was little law in the 70s. That's why we would drive a few hundred miles to go there. There was a lot of money floating around.

You could beat a guy for a few hundred or even a few thousand and they didn't care. You had to stay away from Hector though. He was a world beater who never left the keys.

the good old days of gambling at pool are now long gone. soon the old stories will evaporate in time as us older players who were there retire or die off.

You must have not been on this site very long. That murder suspect has a very long thread on here. It's a sticky at the very top of the main page.

These are the good old days. Still plenty of action.

You just got old.

yea thats it. you can still walk into any pool room and get 20 dollar or more action from players that cannot ever run more than a couple balls.
and bigger action from someone that goes off for hundreds to thousands whenever you beat them.

Then you know some of the places.
Actually, I don't. I was only a casual banger back then (not a serious banger, like I am today), and only played a few times with friends. The only pool room I remember was right off of Roosevelt Blvd. It was in a small shopping center that, I think, is gone now. These days, I hardly recognize anything on the island, when I look at Google maps.

Stick & Stein I think. Long time ago.

Maha's remarks in this thread about my post are insulting. Having the Moderator remove the thread or my post? Are you kidding me?

I have deleted this post because, truthfully, I'm not into the back-and-forth drama Maha seems intent on initiating as evidenced by Maha's multiple posts about it. Good grief, man!
