WTB! Black & white ebony wood

Hi all,

Black-and-White Ebony

Botanical Name: Diospyros embryopteris
Countries of Origin: Myanmar & Laos

Could someone more knowledgeable please explain how this wood compares to normal ebony for instance in terms of stability and characteristics... i've been talking to a cuemaker about having it as a forearm but he has got no experience with the wood.. do you think it'd work?

cheers, Olly

There are a few vendors on ebay selling black and white. Bell has them for $50 for an 18" piece. That is on the expensive side, but they aren't cheap no matter where you look.

Sometimes you can find them with nearly puprle streaking rather than brown streaking.

thanks.. dont mind the little extra price as im only after a piece or two.. when buying online with no pics its kinda risky tho since i have to ship it to england and it might end up being nothing like what i need =)

looking for something with grain like the piece on the left:

cheers, olly

I have a piece that was turned to round a year ago that might be similar to that. If I remember tomorrow, I'll take a photo and post it.

Black and white ebony is very useful and stable. Here is a sample of some I have , getting ready to build with.
Thanx,
Jim Lee

Kelly will you please sell me a piece of the Purple variegated B/W Ebony?

I wish I had enough to sell someone, no big pieces here. I only have enough for points/inlays/and sleeve in a few cues. What little I have cost a lot with a lot of waste.

i like the looks of the Black Dot Ebony too.

although i am not convinced Ebony in general is as stable as people say it is.
