ESPN classic has Janette Lee marathon going on. Right now she is playing Vivian. After the marathon, the Color of money is on.
 
Is ESPN trying to promote her as a personality? I noticed (don't ask how) that she was doing interviews on the bowling partners competition today. She must be preparing to move into the booth on a more permanent basis.
 
I am watching a match taped in NY in 1999 and I can see myself sitting up in the corner. Along with a bunch of the people I know, we all look so young! (Esp, The Kid!)

And I just realized Jeanette looks exactly the same! I wonder if she has a painting hidden in her attic!:rolleyes:

JL has done some recent commentary for ESPN on a BOWLING BROADCAST (in St. Louis). She has also done celebrity, red-carpet interviews for ESPN at the ESPY Awards last year.

I believe that rather than "promoting" her as a personality; they are rather trying to capitalize ON her personality. She has a good on-camera presence, and an interest in the field.

I also have been told that her "Black Widow Marathon" weekends on ESPN (of which this is the third over the past 2 years) result from the fact that WPBA broadcasts with her in the match have a MUCH higher viewer rating than any other WPBA performer; ESPN merely wishes to give the viewers what they seem to want.

Steve Tipton told a group of AZB'ers at Peoria 2 or 3 years ago, that a formal survey they did showed that around 50% of people off the street recognized her name as a pool figure - an insanely high "Q rating" considering how minor the sport is. No other pool player was even in double digits. Hope this helps.
 
Cuechick, she did/does look great! And if no one else gets it, I get the Dorian Grey comment.
I must say I was inspired by the marathon, so I grabbed my cue and went to the back of the house to practice when it was over.
Wouldn't it be nice if we wrote to espn and thanked them for all the pool coverage...
