For those who never saw Richard Black's "Theme" Cues, which he catagorizes as "Funtional Art", Here's his site.:

http://www.blackcues.com/index.shtml

IMO. These are Monsters..
Many of his Funtional Art Cue's seem to break away from the traditional styling of Cues.
And, the amazing part is that, Richard made so many..
It is also sad, that many of those cues are in Private Collections and
there are only a limited amount of Photos of his works of Art.
Richard, It would have been nice to see a Professional Photo Session of each one of those Beautiful Cues.

I share your awe at Mr. Black's inventiveness. His "monsters" take inspiration from no other cuemaker...he is in a class to himself.

I have a CD rom tour of his 1 man show when he displayed a large group of his cues at a museum in Texas. When I bought his cue, "Snap," I had to wait several months for the show to finish before I could collect the cue.

PM with your mailing address and I will send a copy of the disc.

Richard Black's Functional Art

Alton, thank you for posting on Richard's cues, his unique "Art of Cue" creations, and the awesome cuecaps he crafts, which I am sure caught your interest and appreciation. Needless to say, I am a collector and avid fan of Richard's cues. He has well-served both the billiard cue industry "and" the Art World which is most unique for a cuemaker. I enjoyed meeting you at the Cornerstone booth at Valley Forge this year. Best wishes, Paul Del Giudice.

hey alton i live 20 minutes from richard and his shop is the supernuts....he has some of his cues that he has turned into pool cue bridges...it is really neat to see his shop and all of his neat collection of billiard stuff....

Paul!!!! I've been wondering about you!! I though this was Luan's Az page..
Guys, Paul treated me like his son at V.F... And, he just meet me that day. Paul, I could hang with you for hours..just talking.... Man, you gotta love this guy...I do..

Hey, Thanks Drawman, that's so cool of you! I'll P.M. you...What was your name.
I posted Richard's site 'cause he's so quiet and many might not and will miss the oppertunity to see cues that open the imigination of what can be done with a cue.
Like I mentioned before, Many One-of-a-Kind, Magnificent Cues are out of public's sight, in Private Collections..
It's only thru Collectors who post here, (Who we all Thank) and Collectors who participate in High End Cue Shows, That we get a chance to view these precious Cues. Oh, and their websites..:embarrassed2:

Wow amazing stuff, thanks for sharing.

Seems we all think the same when we see your avatars....;)
I appreciate all your post..(Get it..:grin-square:)

And Mickey, you lucky Guy..

Richard's been one of the few people that's taken inspiration from other works of art & brought it into the pool cue world. The picture you posted is a prime example, taking it's design from the old Tiffany stained glass works. One of my favorite cues!

If you'll look in the section on his website, "More Functional Art Cues", you'll see some of the newer cues he's been doing, most of which are new to his website & might not have been seen by many people before.

First of all, great idea for this thread, Alton
I think too, that Richards work is one of the greatest out there and his J7P´s are as fantastic as yours :grin-square:

And second, i had the pleasure to met Paul too and you are completely right,
he is an awesome "father" to talk with - not only for hours, but for days.
I met him the first time like you and he treated me the same way - great.

And last but not least, i was at Bill´s booth for hours each day, so maybe we met there, too..
I was the tall guy with the bad english

drawman,
Those are some nice cues and the joint protectors are quite special in and of themselves. My hat is off to Mr Black.

Alton, my name is Gian Calise

Drawman623, if you have any info about the value of the "Smithson" cue pictured as the middle cue, please e-mail me at PVD1@cox.net. I have one of these in my collection of Richard Black cues. Thank you in advance. I could not find your PM or e-mail address. Best wishes, Paul Del Giudice, good friend of Luan (sumet1)
