Custom doesn't have to cost the world. This case was $270 from us. Bob had someone do the design and we made it. Based on one of our other prototypes.

Congrats to Bob! He's been chomping at the bit to get this for some time, and he'll put it to good use. I'll get to see it up close soon. Nice work, John.

Nice Stuff!

Congrats Bob on your new very cool case.

John that's a lot of custom case for that price.

Is this case leather?
I think in your picture you show a zipper down the side of the case. Is that only a design element or is there something else that it stores? either way it does look cool.

pooln8r- The material looks and feels like leather, but its not. I had the red/black prototype case that is the same material. To be honest, I like it better than the leather cases I have owned, it takes more abuse and always looks great.

The zipper down the side, i'll let John explain.

Thanks for the info. The look and feel of leather with more durability is definitely a plus. I've also had good experiences with high grade leather substitutes on my cases. I'm looking forward to the explanation of the zipper from John.

The zipper is the seam. We can do a lot more if we don't have to turn the case inside out. Doing it this way allows us to do a stronger handle and stronger stress points.

And we can do more creative pockets and other decorative elements like the white stripes and diamond inlays when we can work on the flat pieces.

Someday I plan to buy a transverse sewing machine which allow us to sew up the seam from the inside. When I get that then I won't need to do these with the zipper as the seam. But I also do think that the zipper adds a nice decorative flair to the case as well so I might keep them on some models.

Congrats, Bob. I know you've been anxious to get this. Can't wait to see it.

Does it have a pocket for the magic rack?

pjwoolw- yes, you may put shafts in tip up, but i believe you must put the butts in, pin (joint) first.

John, Thanks for the explanation. Really great looking case and I also think that zipper seam definitely gives it some style points.

BTW...When I first noticed the zipper on the seam line I thought two things, that it might be a new way to add on removable pouches, with the zipper concealing the connectors or the zipper was to be used as a connector itself or finally that it was a case with a changeable outer shell. Nice work there John and you got my mind working :)

That's where you hide your emergency bank roll, lol... Sweet looking case.

I hope you enjoy this case for many, many years!

Actually, I did make a series where the pockets are interchangeable and I made some prototypes with interchangeable skins. That was something I did about four years ago and three years ago I brought them to the Super Billiards Expo. Unfortunately they didn't really catch on. Probably because I didn't really promote them well.

I called the line the Interactive Line and Sterling named them the Chameleon line.

I made up something like 8 pocket styles and three sizes.

We had a couple base colors and about 8 pocket colors. I personally still believe that this idea has a lot of merit and could be hugely useful to consumers.

I even made a few prototypes where the lid would zip completely off and the bottom and the top were zippered on so that you could access the interior from either end and mix and match lids.

But I have found out that consumers aren't really interested in mix and match type cases. Again that could be because there hasn't been any good promotion of such.

So this idea is never really out of my head. If you could poke around in my head you'd find a lot of things like this tucked in the corners trying to make their way out from under a mountain of arguing about things that don't really matter ;-)
