Bob Frey's Side Of the Story

Yeah I remember his Webtv. He actually was fairly good at using that.

We even set up an account for him here on AZ, though he never used it but maybe once for a PM.

I couldn't help but relate to this, as I remember the old Web TV account that Tim had. Remember that one? Not bad, but all you could do was email. I still remember Tim emailing me from that Web TV email the day after 9/11, as I worked in the Pentagon. I think he got rid of that email soon afterwards. If memory serves me correct, Bob started with him late 1978. I've posted many a TS cue here, and many were made primarily by Bob. More reliable there couldn't be, so the whole original thread was nothing but a crock, as most of us know. Hope Bob recovers fully, and goes back to what he's good at. Making cues.

All the best,
WW

Sometimes you have to fire a customer...

This one caught my attention. :)
I sold a lot of cues in the 90s.....there were a very few people that I wouldn't do business with.....one transaction each...lotta aggravation....I always offered a full refund if it was timely.....and I wouldn't sell to them again.
Two of them even tried to buy the same cue back....nope.

One guy gave me a lotta steam 'cause he then bought the cue at a store and had to pay about 30% more....I told him I try to make my life asceasybas possible....doing business with some people is too tough.

I wasn't gonna post this again ( as I have in the last 2 or 3 threads concerning this ) but honestly I really feel compelled to for anyone that may read this that doesn't already know. Having known , dealt with, and played with Frey's for over 20 years now and being close friends with his former rep for the same amount of time I have to say anyone would be hard pressed to find anyone more honest, good to deal with, and a better all round person in the pool world or anywhere else for that matter than Bob Frey, period. Also, while just my opinion he makes some of the absolute best players cues ANYWHERE! Yes, I am biased as I have one currently and have had many over the years but then again there's a reason for that.

I knew you had it in you Brian! :D
My point is that technology is evolving and that if we didn't see the point in using technology that makes communication so much easier, we would be stuck at morse code or smoke signals...
If he does not need to use internet, he is in a privledged position indeed :-)

But to counter your point, even tho Morse code is old and outdated by todays standards, it remains an amazingly effective and efficient method of getting information across great distances, in terrible conditions. (Not an Independence Day joke.)

Ask any amateur radio operator.

Just because an old, tried and true method isnt what the masses use today, doesnt mean it cant or wont work. Apparently Mr. Frey has been able to get along nicely without the aid of a computer.

Lord knows how much more productive I could be without a computer. :grin-square: :embarrassed2: :yeah:  :help: :banghead:

It amazes me that some zero can post a negative about a well known cue maker and there is a group of people that instantly believe it to be true and expect a response. Why respond to an absurdity?

Bob Frey has a great reputation in every way.

I agree with you Phil 100%. Unfortunately I think part of the problem is all of the threads of people having completely true legitimate problems with other cue makers and everyone is just so sick of other cue makers ripping off good honest folks and maybe without good proper knowledge of Bob Frey they may have just kinda jumped on the band wagon. In this case with Bob Frey many of us know that to be totally untrue and know what a good honest guy Bob is. I'm in no way taking up for the J/O poster that made that ridiculous thread but maybe this was the reason for some of the others responses?

If you don't even know who Bob Frey is, then why would you care enough to comment?
I think the people who bought into that joker's story know who Bob Frey is, and either
cowered to his bully-like tone, or they just wanted to argue about something.
The guy was obviously going down in flames, it just happened sooner than expected.

I appreciate the original thread. The OP did nothing to harm Bob's reputation because everyone reading the thread could tell instantly that he was a difficult customer, at best.

I have always wanted a great sneaky pete and based on how people I respect on here came to his defense I did a little research and decided that he is both someone with character that I want to support through his business and a great cue maker who makes possibly the best sneaky pete cues anywhere. So I went to his website and picked one up. Can't wait to get it on Friday!

If not for the original thread I'm sure I wouldn't have thought to do that.

Congrats Six! Which ST did you end up getting? Bob gets my vote for best SP around, several months ago I picked up an Ebony into BEM and just as expected it plays AWESOME!

Oh I liked that one. I almost got it. After much internal discussion I got the cocobolo into maple. There's something about that grain that I just love.

That Coco wood is beautiful for sure. I went with what I got because I had wanted an Ebony SP for many many years. I remember looking around for one all the way back in the mid to late 90's and for some reason I couldn't find a new one for less than $800??? Don't ask me but I couldn't lol. At the time I just couldn't bring myself to spend that on a sneaky. So anyway few months ago I decided I was gonna get one regardless of the cost. With Bob being the first ( and only ) place I checked much to my surprise the cost was quite inexpensive and truthfully I think they are an unmatched incredible value ( just my personal opinion of course ). So I knew I wanted Ebony so as soon as I decided into what I pulled the trigger right away. Bob took the shaft down to my exact specification and changed the tip out for me with one I requested - all at no charge. Even gave me a nice discount to boot!

Therein lies the problem to me, sixpack; that not everyone opens threads and what was written in that orig thread title warning people to "beware" of Bob Frey, that imo could have potentially harmed his rep.

Glad you saw through it and congrats on your purchase.

best,

Customer sounds like a complete pain in the ***. What interests me about these threads attacking a cuemaker is how many people join in and bash the cuemaker automatically.

I remember a thread about Olney.

But They never beat Ron Rosas!

Bam, Uh-Huh!

Yeah, I agree with you. I was trying to put a positive spin on it. I cringe whenever people post negative titles for undercover praise threads. Like "that darn Joe..." And then the post is "he really did right by me!"

The impressions do matter and even subconscious 'hits' register in people's brains and add up over time.
