Let me give the 100% Facts on Bob "Big Bob" Ogburn post demise.
In the beginning of the week in this thread, I noticed a couple of posts that fished around the fact that Bob's remains had not been handled in the proper manner!
On Wednesday morning, I decided to investigate truth/status of what happened to Bob. So, I started out by calling the Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home.
I spoke to a Very nice woman, Melody. She informed me that Bob had been cremated by the 'County' after 3 days because no one claimed his body. I asked Melody, "Where are Mr. Ogburn's ashes, I'd like to have them?" She replied, "You 'll have to speak to the 'County Coroner,' Ken New."
I called Mr New, He was a little evasive at first, then he went on to say we contacted a cousin in SC. he didn't want anything to do with being involved in the cremation process or the ashes.
Then I asked the same question of him, "Can I have Mr. Ogburn's ashes?" He beat around the bush a little and said, "Well, Mr. Ogburn was indigent, so the County paid for His cremation, $1,400.00." He then says, "Maybe we can work something out if you want to pay for the cremation the County paid for!" I asked, "Do you have His ashes there?" He said, "No, they are at the funeral home they have papers to fill out for Mr. Ogburn's bank. call them"
BTW, I know for a Fact Bob was not exactly broke!
I waited about 10 minutes before I called back to speak to Melody, because something sounded fishy with the coroner.
When I did call back, I spoke to Melody, I told her. "I'd like to have Bob's ashes," she put me on hold for about 10 minutes!
When she got back on the phone she said, "I was looking for Mr. Ogburn's file, and it seems it's been PAID in FULL!"
I asked how/who Paid for it, she refused to answer.
So I said, "Can "I" have his ashes?" She said, "Yes, you can come and pick them up." I told her "I live 4 hrs. away."
I told her I might have a better idea. "Bob has his Very Best friend (Harly Bryan) that lives in Jacksonville, much closer than I, I'll see if he can come and pick them up."
Meanwhile I had already spoken to Harly to fill him in early on what was going on. Harly agreed to call Melody and made arrangements to pick up Bob's ashes that very day.
Harly and his daughter went to Brunswick and NOW have Bob's ashes.
Bob was a Veteran, but always wanted to be cremated. Harly is a Veteran and will be buried by the VA.
Harly's intentions are to have Bob's ashes buried with in him in a VA cemetery!
That's the 100% Truth of the matter!
