Bocote vs East Indian Rosewood

IMO you are over thinking this, your game is not going to improve by leaps and bounds buy purchasing a cue. The big benefit of having your own cue is simply not having to adjust to a different cue every time you play. If you buy a solid cue with a good tip that is all you need to worry about. Later in your pool career after playing for many years you will have a better idea of how your cue will affect your game. The only thing I would suggest at this stage of your game is to stay away from extremes, really light, really heavy, Huge tip, snooker tip, that kind of thing. Table time has way more influence on your game than the cue at this point.

sry if i was obnoxious etc with all the question but i've finally decided on a cue.

Schmelke - M Series - Rosewood

This will be my last post in any of these threads until I get the stick then I'll post a review after a week of use or so, in case people are looking at this thread in the future.

Thanks for everyone that helped me it is much appreciated!!!!

I understand Josh and I apologize if I sounded harsh. Not what I wanted you to think.

And altho a custom cue maker isn't making you the cue, you are still altering what you can at Schmelke with what they have to offer so in a way, you are customizing it a bit to achieve your desired goal.

You asked a legit question. Altho, your shaft, ferrule material, ferrule length and tip play a large factor in the hit you prefer, there are also a couple of other points in which Chris and others tried to explain.

Those also being the wide grain bacote, joint and joint material and pin.

Like you said, maybe Schmelke won't go as far as to make you a special cue with a wide grain but it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe they will accommodate you. Myself, I have had great luck dealing with Schmelke as they do seem to be willing to go out of their way in re to customer satisfaction. So you never know. Ask and you may receive.

And then the 10 dollar upgrade. I can understand that being a student, you have to watch your cash flow and even a 10 can make a difference in a bag of groceries.

But, it also could make the difference between the cue you are ordering being perfect in your eyes or just so so.

Thats all I was trying to convey to you. Don't make the effort and go all that way just to stall over a 10 dollar upgrade.

Good luck Bud. Schmelke are good people to deal with and I'm sure you'll be most happy with what you get from them.

Me, I guess I am just a bit biased as I like using the big pin. I feel that a big pin into wood or an insert is the way to go for the ultimate feel and hit.

Bocote with G10 pin, threaded phenolic collar with 3M Dp460 epoxy, old growth maple handle , threaded butt sleeve with noise suppressor and orange bushka bumper at 19 oz will hit better imho.
Ivor-X ferrule and Kamui S black would be nice too.

Sounds pretty nice Joey.

Looking forward to mine.

Sounds like you got yourself a nice cue. Good choices and I am sure you will be most happy with your Schmelke cue.

The stainless steel pin is like a $10 upgrade :D

Spend the $10 now. Or possible spend $50 or more later to get a new pin and brass insert installed when the brass freezes to each other. $10 well spent.

There are alot of great people on here, but some of you are real jerks. And you probably think your pretty cool or funny by degrading other peoples questions. Well your not. Just jerks. Hopefully I get the opportunity to come across some of your questions sometime so I can chime in with a degrading smartass comment towards your post, seeing how you find that perfectly acceptable. Have some common curtiousy to other people on this forum. We all have questions and concerns, and come here looking for advice and wisdom of others. Nothing wrong with a question regarding a $100 cue or a $1000 cue.
