body movement

Hi we know that is important to have the minimal body movement during our shot. But now i have a little doubt. I see many pool videos and almost every player doesn't stay down on the shot. For example john shmidt and thorsten hohmann, they are terrific players but i dont understand why they dont stay down on their shot, they hit the cueball and almost immediately they get up.
I must say i'm ignorant about pool strokes and stances because i play snooker and every snooker player stay completely immobile.maybe that body movement is effective in pool but i dont think so.
Thank you and sorry for my bad english

Maybe that is just how they are used to shooting...Take Francisco B stroke, or Keith Mcreadys stroke....they are not 2 people you woudl want to model a stroke after, but dang, look at how good they play. I say its all how you learned to play pool. Yes, maybe we could all get better and benefit from the disciplin stroke and stance of a snooker player...I know I could for one.

Then again, if they are pulling up immediately after a shot, maybe thier mind just isnt in it at that particular moment and they forget the basics....I dunno, but I watch how the pros shoot, stroke the cue and thier stance and I try to see how I can use what they are doing to make my game better....

Good topic though!

As long as they stay down on the shot while hitting the cue ball, then it's fine. If they are coming up while shooting it's not good.

After a life time of playing....I'm 43, I have come to the belief that with a little God given talent you could tape a cue to your forehead, shoot a few hundred thousand shots and become a Pro! :)

Basically IMO if you can repeat it?...fine. If you are luck enough to learn from a Pro, you will most likely have much better fundamentals. I was told most young snooker players learn in a club. Most likely why you don't see a big variety in their styles.

i haven't noticed that. i noticed thorsten jumping up in one video i've got of him but that's the only time i've ever seen him move when he's down over a ball.

will u post a video where you've noticed it?

i dont understand this post. My english is bad, anyway if every snooker player use the same stance is because is the better and consistent stance.

in this video specially at 6:21 anyway in the entire match he has an evident body movement on his stroke..

If you hit the pause button repeatedly during that shot, you will see that he doesn't move until after contact with the cb. Rodney, on the other hand, tends to start to move his body back as him arm starts to go forward.

yes, i dont say he moves before hitting the cb but after and i know you must stay immobile before, during and after ( obviously not for long time, some advice i have received is "stay immobile until the ob doesn't reach the pocket") you hit the cueball

That is good advice. And really helps when learning to stay immobile. At the level of these guys though, they know the second they hit the cb if it is a good shot or not. To them, the shot is now over. They have played enough hours that they can get away with little 'cheats' that the average player can't get away with.

yes but i don't understand why they don't stay immobile.. i mean it is all of gained ( hope this sentence is deducible)... and it doesn't have any disadvantage
