Hello AZB'ers,
While I am not an official league spokesperson, I work for the league, care about the league, and wanted to briefly explain the basic rules of our game. I've seen many here post they might give Bonus Ball a chance if they better knew the rules. So I will do my best to explain some rules and answer questions (pertaining to the rules only) as I want to help those who want to give it a try to watch and understand our game.
I will start with basic rules for now, as there aren't many. Then, I encourage you to go to our website and watch one of the matches and you'll see it unfold. I may check back here for more detailed questions. But it really was quick for me to pick up on.
I am doing this on my own, and I'm not speaking on behalf of the league, or about anything other than the rules. I just know some of you have said you might give this a try if you knew the rules and strategy, and we would love your support and attempts to learn our game! So here are a few things to get you started.
1. First player will break AND shoot with purple the first to shoot at.
(Any balls made on break respot)
2. The sequence is purple first (1 point), then orange (2), then the Bonus Ball (3) next. In our pro version (which is all I will go over for now), there are three white bordered pockets and three black. The team in white jerseys uses the white pockets, and the team in black the black. You will notice at the bottom of the screen the graphic with the team's name is bordered with the colored ball they are on. So to start each game, as an example, both teams names at the bottom of our screen are bordered in purple.
3. Each game is to 30 points and, if done within 15 minutes, that team receives 2 match points. Shutouts are worth 3, and if we go to a shoot out, a team can only get one point.
4. There is a 24 second shot clock as well, and if a shot isn't completed within, it is a foul.
Strategy: To me, some of the best shot making is when a player DOESN'T have an offensive shot, yet moves his object ball close to one of his pockets AND leaves his opponent with nothing offensive to shoot at as well. These guys are amazing at that!
Anyway, that is a start I hope. There are just a few more rules, and I will check back if you have RULES questions. We have certain shots come up that I explain during our matches as they happen, but if you have a question about them, I will be happy to do my best here to answer. I simply read this thread and realized we have a little more than a month until the playoffs, with some great matches unveiled every other day for people to watch, learn, and hopefully enjoy at our website. Happy holidays, and we would love your support!
