Boxing and billiards

I've also done both, Boxing was a hell of a release, anger, energy, establish dominance, also most don't know there is great thinking in boxing, stratigy, give and take, not just a bust'um up sport as some think. Pool (can be if you don't take it too seriously) a great release, and fun, relaxing, boxers can't drink alcohol before or during training or a fight, and you can't clown around or you may get hurt, pool you can have a drink, have a laugh, fool around alittle.

Remember, some people do only play pool for fun, and they love it like children.

P.s. I miss boxing so much, I started working out again and am thinking of having 1 more match, we'll see, it's been along time since I stepped into a ring.

I'm not one to tell people what to do. How long have you been out of the ring, and how old are you? I only lost one fight in NY before I hung them up. Four and a half years later at 22 yo I was in the Army up in Alaska. I was passing the gym on post one day when I saw a sign that said if you joined the boxing team you didn't have to go out in the boonies and play war-games for the next 30 days in sub-freezing temps.

I said to myself, who the hell would be up here in Alaska that was any good in the ring. Anyhow, I had 6 fights up there. I got knocked out or the fight was stopped on a TKO in 5 of them and the 6th fight I lasted the 3 rounds but was in bad shape for a week or more after. You know blood in the urine and such. This guy turned out to be the Texas AAU champ or some other state wide boxing association. He was 144-0. I did meet up with him in a bar in Fairbanks a month or so later and just about killed him with a bar stool. I had found out he didn't want to knock me out, he just wanted to hurt me real bad. I use to fight Banty, but the service put about 20 pounds on me. I was much too short for that weight and couldn't reach them in the ring anymore. Plus they hit a hell of a lot harder than a Bantemweight. Johnnyt

So, what was your advice?

I'm 29, 8 years since I've been in the ring for a match, Not bragging I was undefeated, but that doesn't mean much to me since I was much bigger, and younger then. I'm not one to train for a month and then get a match, if I fight again, I'll have to just exercise for a year, slowly hitting the bag. I helped my cousin who is an ultimate fighter he's 18-0, very good fighter, but he "swings" punches, it's like watching a Rocky movie, anyway, I still got the speed, and The CHIN. But I had a Virus attack my heart a year ago, and I need to shed 20lbs, and need something to get me going again so to speak. Yes I miss getting hit. I never got knocked down, or out, maybe lack of talent around where I live, but there were some great fighters in other weight classes, Grant Hill lived 200 miles away from me, great fighter. I used to spar with a great amature Lightheavy champ, He was a *****, but what a fighter, he's mexican, so I can't even begin to spell his name, no offence ment by my last comment, I'm horrible at spelling.

As a side note: theres a moment in boxing that inspires me, call it what you want, but I used to be big, and people used to tell me I couldn't do things, I lived to prove people wrong, then when people stopped doubting me, I lost alot of "FIRE" inside, looking to find that again, but here is the moment that truely inspires me, and one of the only moments thats still brings tears to my eyes: when I need a pick me up, I watch this ENJOY, watch in order

My 2 favorite passions! Add the NBA, and thats it! R.I.P Chico...Being 29, I didn't witness alot of the classic lightweight fighters-Saddler, Pep, Duran, JCC, Arguello, Sweet Pea, except on youtube and occasionally ESPN clips, but those that did, I think even they would agree that Corrales/Castillo I has to go down as one of the greatest lightweight fights ever. Chico was a true warrior

When boxing is good, nothing comes close. MMA has nothing on a great boxing matchup. I've tried hard to get into MMA and find myself disappointed every PPV I order, boxing has plenty of letdowns as well but to me its worth watching 100 mediocre fights to get to a great one like this.

Agreed. I did like the 1st 4 UFC's, when it was all Royce Gracie..then the rules, rounds...I lost interest. But you're right-boxing has so many black eyes, and they still happen often. Mosley with the steroids, Margarito with the illegal handwraps, and just plain ROBBERY- did you watch the Cintron/Martinez undercard on the Nate Campbell fight? CLEAR punch that dropped Kermit on his a$$, he whined and cried that it was a butt, replays clearly showed it was a clean punch, the ref-you could hear him/see him mouth the words 'it's over' but Cintron in typical fashion whined and cried and the fight went on to a draw, which he then had the nerve to ***** about. These freakin judges....I had Kermit winning 3 rounds out of 12, even with the point deduction against Martinez in the 12th. The crooked judges, the 20 different alphabet organizations, the elite fighters fighting once a year, boxing has so much going against it, but I'll take a mediocre boxing match over MMA any day of the week

You have to be careful of those old guys. REP for the links.

I suspect that the two sports had a more common involvement with one another several decades ago given their "status" in American culture

nowadays, I doubt that boxing has anything more in common with pool than any other sport, but if I had to pick one, it would be golf
