Brass insert question

Good day AZers!
I recently bought a cheap production cue with a 5/16 x 14 piloted stainless steel joint. I plan on using this cue as a break stick so I had our local cuemaker make an ashwood shaft for the cue. After a couple of weeks, I recieved the shaft, it has no brass insert and there is phenolic lined in the shaft where the pin is going to be threaded. My question is, because there is no brass insert, will the excessive stress that the cue will undergo damage the thread? Will the joint flex more and cause damage to the shaft in the long run?

The phenolic insert wont hurt the joint and the threads will last, phenolic is pretty durable.
 
Yes, I believe that there should be a brass insert also. The cue makes a funny sound when I'm breaking, maybe it's because of the dead space in the joint where the brass insert pilot should be. Is there such a thing as a piloted phenolic insert? BTW my shaft is now a flat faced 5/16 x 14 with a phenolic insert and the butt is still piloted 5/16 x 14 stainless steel.

The funny sound is most likely from the tip or ferrule
A cue tech can make you a piloted joint from phenolic pretty easily..
 
Ash sounds weird in general. I prefer maple, but that's probably because it's what i'm used to. have you hit with an ash cue before the modification?
