Is Pete Tascarella an AZer? I'm looking to find out if George ever made cues with brass joints? Perhaps an E-mail address? Thanks Don:cool:

I'm not Pete, nor do I play him on TV, but the answer is yes.
Keep in mind, George started building cues aprox 1960
when Herman Rambow was still THE MAN east of the Rockies.
like Frank Paradise, he more or less based his cues on
Herman's<Titlist blanks, etc>

I never saw the cue, but a friend of mine went to 14.1
tournaments starting in the early 70s.
Petey Margo had a brass joint Bushka.

FWIW - Billy Schick probably knows as much about George's
work as any living human.

Three people I know of, have the largest collections of Balabushka cues...the Glenn family (AZ), Rick Goulden (IA), and Mark Kulungian/Classic Cues (CT). They could probably answer this question, as could Bill Schick. Margo is still a 'young' guy, like me:D , and could solve this mystery too. I never saw, nor heard of a brass-jointed Balabushka...and I've seen pictures of hundreds, handled several dozen, and owned one myself. Not saying it's impossible, but just never heard of it. George's cues, like Gus Szamboti's, were known for their nickle-silver joints. Brass jointed cues mostly were pale comparisons. Some notable exceptions were some Rambows, many Harvey Martins, and all of Eddie Laube's cues (his brass joints were unsurpassed in the quality of their construction, and the way the joint fit the shaft screw). Eddie always maintained that ANY butt he ever made would match up perfectly with ANY shaft he ever made for any cue! That's saying a LOT! There may be a few others...I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

I assume your asking because of the "Balabushka" currently on eBay.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned that the cue in the eBay auction is obviously not a Titlist blank, as he claims?

I'm almost completely certain that this is an Asian made production cue from the early 1970s. I had an identical cue I sold awhile back for a couple of hundred bucks. I just looked and saw that someone had placed a $1,500 bid (amazing...).

no work today jake. Just hangin out. Don

NICE:cool:  My bet is that it's a lot cooler in the gold crown/memorabilia decked out basement than it is in a dump truck

BTW: we were thinking of going to Helena this weekend for a 8-ball blind draw doubles tourney, nothing's set in stone yet but if we go you should come with us

What mystery is that?

Ni Silver?? That was Paradise and Palmer by special order

George and Gus used SS, mostly and a few ivory.

Sean...got any pics? Never seen any in all the bushkas I've seen. BTW, got to meet your partner Matt last week. Great guy, and makes a very nice looking and solid hitting cue too! Good luck with your cue biz...

Yes. He did, early cues had a brass joint/screw.

Some pics from our extensive Bushka archive

Notice the brass joint / steel screw combo. This is a late 60's, early 70's cue with a Spain forearm and a leather wrap.

Scott,

Here's one from the early 60s with brass joint and screw. This cue was acquired from the original owner and is in totally original condition. One of the two shafts has maybe a hr of play. Glad you got to come through town and meet some of the guys. Matt filled me in on your great lesson. We've been dabbling a bit with making cues and to date most have come out pretty good. Take care. Will PM you later tonight.

The mystery of whether Balabushka EVER made a cue with a brass joint...:D

It is probably a good thing I didn't read this right away

I really don't care for your implication that I am a liar.
Esp comming from someone who so obviously just
makes $*it up as he goes along

Now that someone else who knows what he is talking about
has posted pictures, what do you have to say?

Dale

Thanks for the pics to ClassicCues and Cueaddicts. I learn something new every day. In all the 'bushka' cues I've seen, never saw a brass joint!
Guess I need to get out more! :D

Sean...I saw a late 60's Balabushka about 15 yrs ago that was in absolutely BRAND NEW condition...still in the original box. The owner had never even hit a ball with it! I wonder if it's still that way. It would be worth a mint! :D

Brass Jointed "Balabushka?" on eBay

If any of the bidders on the wrapless Balabushka that just sold on EBay gets a second chance offer, I can provide pictures of an identical cue marketed by Brunswick. (I can't post them here because my files are encrypted.) Tom

Dale...Apparently you MISSED this part of my post to you:
Not saying it's impossible, but just never heard of it.

Sorry if you felt I was calling you a liar. Didn't mean it that way...just the way I said it. I never heard of or saw one. Now I've been corrected, and I owned up to it (see above post). Exactly what do I "make up as he goes along"?

Tom,

Did the Bruns version have a brass joint?
I saw several of these cues, National sold them, but they all
had Aluminium Joints.

How about this egg claiming his dear old dad bought the
cue new from George?
