Whats the best break cue?

X-Breaker
Predator BK2
Gulyassy Sledgehammer Made by Samsara
Mezz Powerbreak with Deep Impact Shaft

Please help me what to buy...

thanks! need your inputs... TIA :)

ive got a pretty good deal at the same price what will you choose?

predator BK2 vs Gulyassy Made By Samsara?

i would get the gulyassy if i were you.. i know you didnt say it but alot of people will reccomend a varney break cue but i cant really because ive never tried one although i want to

I would recommend you to do a search on feedback and reviews on various products. If you save a few dollars now but end up having to sell it later because you do not like it, it is a lot of extra spending on time, energy, money, not to mention the agony.

Let's not forget the games and tournaments you could have won if you had purchased the perfect breaker, rather than one that is a bit cheaper, but not as good.

I would recommend JW Petree, he makes a very good jump break cue. Very nice workmanship.

Chris Hightower also has a Hightower highpower jump break cue, which features a flat laminated shaft, under $300.

If you are interested in the Bk2, you may contact Joe, he can give you a very good deal, his email is joerackem@aol.com.

Hope this helps,

Richard

All of the cues you listed are very good. You also might want to look at a Varney J/B cue. Do a search in the forums and you'll see lots of info on all of these cues.

X-breaker is nice. I have a Predator BK (not a BK2) and I have two shafts for it. One has a Moori Med. on it and the other is a full phenolic rod. Those two shafts give me maximum adaptability to any table. I love it.

I own a Varney and am very pleased with it's performance!

I think I will have my BK2 forever, or at least until I get a BK3. I have owned many a break cue (2 Sledge, Stinger, Scorpion, Xbreaker........)

the only reason i dont own one is because i cant afford it!!! i have to use a house cue because my jnj is broken and i dont like the way it breaks enough to fix it. im hoping to come up on a used varney j/b when i have money someday

Chad (CAMCUES) made me one that breaks like a bomb. The BK2 I had wasn't even in the same league................ I have also heard great things about the Varney, but haven't had the pleasure of trying one yet.

I have always focused quite a lot on the break. I have tried many cues. Here is what I think:

Predator BK (original one): I am not a fan of a layered tip for breaking. I put a black Water Buffalo tip on. Night and day difference. This cue with this tip gives great power and control. Not the hardest hitting, but a very good break cue overall. My only major complaint is the workmanship is so so at best (compared to a higher quality custom cue). Also, the look is pretty generic.

Omen Jump/Break: I LOVE this cue. I have one with a cocobolo handle and birdseye maple forearm (the butt is only two pieces). I originally got it with Omen's phenolic tip-not sure what it is, but it looks like a leather tip on a regular ferrule. I think as phenolic tipped cues go, this thing has phenomenal control. Hit is very solid, and the overall feel and balance of the cue is excellent. Also, Pete Ohman is a great guy and excellent with customer service. This cue gets a big thumbs up from me. I later got a 2nd shaft with a Water Buffalo leather tip. This is also an excellent setup. More cue ball control than the phenolic, and only a little less speed. For someone like me who hits the balls pretty hard usually (22-26 mph), I am kind of stupid for using a phenolic tipped cue-there is really no need. Still, it sure feels good to smash the cueball with a phenolic tip.

X Breaker (gen 3 made by Samsara): I also love this cue. This is my main breaker right now. This cue hits harder than anything I have ever felt. Cueball control is very good, power is crazy. I really like the piloted joint-it offers a real one piece feel. Workmanship is outstanding. My only gripe is that the tip has a tendency to leave white marks on the table, which room owners don't like so much. I saw one of Richards cues that he made himself (not Samsara). It seemed identical, though without hitting balls with it it is impossible to know. Richard is a great guy as well and was a great pleasure to deal with.

Overall, I think my performance with the Omen cue is best for really smashing the balls. If you favor a more controlled, mid speed break-the X Breaker has no equal. Also, on a bar table, the X Breaker is the best thing ever.

I have been using the BK2 and I love it. I chanced the tip for a white diamond, and it works great for me.
I think, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I would love to try other break cues like the X breaker, but there is no place that sells them around here.

I have owned and sold the following... Stinger, X-breaker, Sledgehammer, (have tried the Samsara Sledgehammer), Bunjee j/b... Of those, I liked the Stinger the best.

I now own and exclusively break with the BK2. I like the hard tip on the BK2 because it is not phenolic. With the phenolic, I tend to lose control of whitey too easily. With the BK2, I control my rock and break them very well.

It's all about what works for you. Try a bunch, if you can then buy the one that you like.

Good luck, JBK

I have tried a number of jump/break cues, but when I got a Stinger, I quit looking at others. I get phenomenal breaks with half the effort of others I've tried, and with the resin impregnated canvas tip, controlling the cue ball is no problem. Wouldn't trade it. Only problem I have is, now everyone I know (friends) that I play with grab my Stinger to break with, and then try to stick it in their cue case. Have to watch it to make sure it doesn't get away.

I'm using the stinger right now and like it alot, the only thing I don't like is the coating or whatever on the shaft because when my hands get sweaty it begins to have alot of friction, besides that it hits very well and I like it alot as a break cue.

Just a question

but isn't a 'resin impregnated canvas tip' the same as a 'canvas resin phenolic tip'? The resin impregnated is just the 'plastic' based part of the tip?

If you want the hardest and best tip, there is nothing that compare to the new X2 tip that Richard Chan developed for Xtreme Billiards (X-Breaker, X-Jumper). 79,000 psi, and it holds chalk very well. Over twice as hard as phenolic tips.

I've tried the Stinger, Sledgehammer, and BK2. I now have a new Gulyassy/Samsara that is amazing. I've let about 15 people in my home poolhall try it and they all say the same thing...best break cue they've ever used. :p
