Break in the face

To me, this is one of the offensive things every pool player should know better not to do. I was leading a 9 ball match last session, and my opponent won the next break. I racked the balls, I just cleared the rack off the now set balls, and boom, right in my face he blasted the balls. It scared the hell out of me. I have heard of people getting whacked in the head because of this. I was startled but didn't lash out verbally at him, but my team mates did, and even his team mentioned it to him. This is an APA league that I am not happy being a part of. Along with this, I am putoff by the arguing and bitching over shots that have been made. One gal double hit the cue ball, evident as heck, but denied doig it, so we let her ger away with it. I made a fantastic carom off the 8 ball and sank the 9 ball and they argued I hit the 9 ball first. It was just a slight cut with the 8 and 9 close together, but anybody with any understanding could see it was a good hit. The competitive nature of the league president is over the top, which is abrasive. I came in as a 3 hc, jumped to a 6 in one night, lost to a 5 and 4 hc's, I'm stll a 6 hc??? F this league, I'm quitting! Am I wrong for wanting to move on?
ps...the tables are 'beat up', 7 ft br box tables, they stink !

I agree that breaking in your face is wrong, that's why I like to have the cue ball while I'm racking. But you can't expect everyone to see the game the way you do. Maybe the girl legit didn't think she double hit the ball... Maybe the other team legit thinks you made a bad hit on the 9... Maybe the guy legit thinks you're a 6 regardless of what two matches showed... You're obviously not going to have fun, so just quit. No one will care. You deserve to enjoy playing, so find a way to do that.

Lay your cue across the table at an angle in front of the rack. Grab the cue from the side of the table when you are ready for the person to break. I've done this for years.
Years of playing 9-ball…I’ve always done this….some people aren’t even mean, they’re just eager to get at it in the heat of the moment…..the last thing you pick up is your cue as you’re leaving.

Bar table leagues suck.
So many dynamics with immature cliques of child adults. You are in or you are out....and since you can play a little, you are out.

Either get better and play on big tables or move on to pickleball or cornhole.

I had this happen to me twice within a single set while gambling way back in the day. Made it a point then to always keep a hand on the table till I was at the point to walk away. I personally care to much about my playing cue to risk some moron crashing the CB into it while waiting for me to rack.

Its usually not a choice of "getting better so he can play on big tables", most leagues and tournaments are on barboxes now. If you have big table leagues and tourneys in your area I would consider you lucky. In my neck of the woods the big tables are used to hold our cues and cases for some reason while we play on barboxes. I cant tell you how disappointed I was to find out we were playing a tourney on barboxes when ample big tables were available. I think most league players are afraid of them. Some acquaintances don't want to shoot on my table because I have a 9' table. Its a strange world.

100%. Almost every person who has done this to me was an excited newer player.

how does that work? i don't know anything about league play, but i'm thinking if it's your home room, wouldn't your team have a significant advantage playing on them against visiting teams?

These were tournaments but I don't see much difference between a big/small table advantage and a league that has some places with Valleys and some with places with Diamonds.

I have seen someone break before the cue was lifted up. Some people are just too focused. Keeping the cue ball sounds like a good idea but usually the breaker has it and is getting ready.

I think this is all another argument for rack your own.

Use the bridge...

Pool is fast becoming a joke in the USA. Our second best player just crapped all over himself when he was the favorite in last 4 of Spanish Open.

No way we are gonna keep up....because the rest of the world still likes a challenge, while we hand out participation trophies.
