what are the best non phenolic or phenolic like tips. good at jumping too. leather preferably. i hate the feel and sounds that phenolic make. thanks.

The best breaking/jumping tip that fits your description...hands down...at the present time, is the "White Diamond" tip. It's a fiber resin composite. Tiger Products makes an excellent tip for this purpose and comes in a very close second.

I like a Sumo tip, pressed as tightly in a vise as I can get it. Its a hard tip to begin with, pressing makes it harder, yet it still has the feel of a leather tip.

You'll find White Diamonds on eBay 3 / $11.99 plus $1.00 shipping directly from Joe, I believe. I have 2 shafts for my break cue. WD for jumping or head-on breaks and a pressed Sumo for 2nd ball breaks in 8-ball. I have a Talisman X-hard I havent tried yet, and probably won't. Tried a pressed Talisman Hard, and couldn't get as much spin as the Sumo. Anybody have a spare Moori Quick they want to trade?

Sumo tips are excellent but do have the tendency to explode when you need them most. Good tip but somewhat risky. If you have one installed, be sure to have the repairman cut the tip down to at least half the size it installs at. You don't need the whole tip, you're only breaking with it in most cases. The tip will still last you a couple of years at least.

Then, tell him to give it a quarter radius. If you have a great stroke, with power and control, you can use a nickel radius.
