Brian Gregg's Sick 3 rail bank from DCC Bank Ring Game

If it is the one I am thinking of, it is hit with inside english.. I've made it a few times, and once in a tournament to finish off a three rack run in 8 ball.

CueTable Help

The key is to visualize what the induced right english does to the object ball off of each rail. You have two sources of induced english here: The angle the cue ball comes across the OB puts some right english on the OB, and the rest comes from the englih you add wth the "gear effect" from the CB's left english.

I'm trying to figure out what english he is using on this to make this ball.

around 45:00-46:00

Three rails cross side to side. Disgusting shot under pressure.

So lets see this diagrammed. I've played a bit of bank pool and have not seen this shot be made in play.
He makes a nice 3-cushion kick at 45:37 that seems impossible , but it looks like the table was playing long and he may have lengthened the shot with a lot of running english on the first cushion.

I guess the shot you are talking about is the 3-times cross-corner that he shot at 46:06. That takes a little inside (left in the shot shown). It also requires cloth that will continue to "walk the ball back" on this kind of nearly-straight-into-the-rail shot. The classic use of this action is to bank a ball off the center spot three times cross-side. It's important to not use too much english since if the cue ball is spinning too much less will transfer to the object ball. In the case of the classic 3-cross-side, you can play it with center ball if the cue ball is sitting right.

Thanks for sharing this shot! I'd never seen it before & it was an eye-opener.

Here's a screenshot just before he pulled the trigger. You can spot the english he was using.

Here's the CB/OB just after the OB left the first rail. Look how close the kiss was!

Here's where the OB contacted the 2nd rail.

Here's how it entered the pocket...it hit on the short side but what a SHOT! It was fun watching him bounce around the table pumping his fist after sinking that one.

Thanks alot for the youtube shot pics since I can not get the cuetable while at work. Awesome job.

That shot has been "making the rounds" in one pocket by a couple of players in my regular room. It's great if it works that's for sure. I generally slam dunk it in my oppenents hole.:o

I'm sure I'm just nieve, but in either of the shots discussed, why can't you go 1 rail? I have never played bank intensive games, so be nice. (I'm new)

Context....

Looks like a good 2 rail shot with the right amount of english and speed control for one pocket. In a normal bank game the ball would be pocketed and cue ball locked on the rail for a decent safe. The 3-rail shot is RISKY in one pocket, but usable in a ring game bank situation or for goofing around. As mentioned the kiss is a problem. I have made that shot one-rail with a back cut and slower/ish mass-a of the cue ball. (english needs time to work and bring the ball back down. Have fun, Scott

Maybe...but maybe not depending on the score.

As long as you make sure you play it short it is not that risky. You can normally get whitey pretty safe with this shot.

Cuz it doesn't go.

I liked the 3x's cross corner too so I practiced it until it became a hanger.
Then I decided to try it long rail and made that too. You really have to hit it hard. This shot is really not difficult set it up and try it I had everyone at the poolhall making it. Philw

What cracked me up when I watched that shot was Billy Incardona yelling ,"No he didn't!!" while Gregg was jumping all over the place.
