Bringing Your Own Tip To Cuemaker

Thanks all. I think I'll just put the box of my tips in my pocket in case he doesn't have any Triangles. I've never been to a curmaker before. JT

Sometimes I like to tip the repairman....if he does a good job and doesn't mess stuff up. For example if he doesn't ding my shaft, scratch my ferrule, leave glue on my ferrule, cut my ferrule with a razor knife, or any other foreign things that aren't supposed to happen with a tip install he will get a tip. If he cleans the shaft and re seals it unexpectedly he gets a good tip.

I also leave a bit extra for quality repair. I appreciate someone who cares for my cues the way I do.

Thats kinda steep... I have never payed more than 7.50 for a tip install any where between Kansas City, MO to Stuttgart, Germany.

I guess that you would have to know that I am in Canada. Supplies from the USA cost a bit more to get up here once shipped.

Altho it might sound a bit snotty of me to say that I don't turn on my lathe for less than $15, there is a bit of sense to that when you consider all the money I have wrapped up in equipment, related tools, supplies etc.

Most of my customers pay $5 less for a tip than at my one competitors and they also get a shaft clean with a tip, something he charges $15 and up for.

There are a lot of players where I live that don't have much money. I have been known to do work for them for the price of a beer many times.
And most times, they don't even remember to buy me a beer when I see them. No biggy, my contribution to the small pool world.

I carry most popular tips with the exception of Kamui. With the new Ultra Skin tips, I find that I don't have to do a lot of work to match up any longer.

They get a Skin, a good deal, and they are happy. I have a few customers that prefer a Milk Dud or an Elk Master. The rest get Skins these days.

I almost prefer it anymore. There are a zillion tips on the market and different hardness of each brand. People read about some new tip and want to try it. I always tell them to look on line and get the tip and I will be happy to install it for them.

If they hate the tip as long as it doesn't fall off I don't have to worry about it. It is unrealistic to think anyone will have so many different tips on hand anyway. When I first started fooling with cues there were maybe three choices. French Champion, Le Pro and Elk Master. Today, forget about it.

Never really thought of that angle. With all the tips out there, it would be a huge hassle for a cue maker or cue repair guy to carry them all.

Also, I figure the fee I pay for tip replacement helps pay for the excellent equipment used as well as the know-how to do the job right. Well worth it as far as I'm concerned.

I charge 10 to put on their tip, and if it's a tip I carry in stock, I give it a full warranty...but if it's not a regular stock item, then, I don't offer a warranty, but, I've got a really good record of tips not coming off...(thanks to Ron Geyer, Joe Blackburn, and Steve Lomax and several other's, helping me learn their methods of cue services)...

I also charge 10.00 for a shaft cleaning and reconditioning, if they want it...

He just charges that because that is what he charges, it doesn't relate to the actual value of the job.
Heck, he could do it for nothing for that matter and that would not mean that anyone who charges is a rip off.

When you have the equipment it is not much of a big deal to replace a tip but it still have a certain value. The fact that he is raising his price to $10.00 tells you he knows he does not charge enough. Who does a 100% price raise? I am sure he really has not liked doing the work for what he has been charging for some time now.

Yea he knows it's cheap, but likes what he does so I guess he kept it that price for awhile. He said I'll stay the same since I bring him a lot of business and he likes that I bring my own tips. He just says that if anything happens to it then I'm out a tip. If I'd buy a tip off of him and it fell off or delaminated or something then he would gladly put another on at no charge. He's definitely way cheap for what he does, but I'm just saying some people still might put them on cheap who actually know what they are doing.

I used to bring that which packs the bong and my guy would install whatever I wanted for free...of course it would be a 4hr commitment.

Ahh, I miss them daze...

Hahaha! Did you ever leave there only to realize ya'll forgot to do the tip?:D
