Broadcasting of USBA Nationals

No internet connection????????

We have received news that the Casino can not provide an internet connection to broadcast the nationals. A very simple solution. Link your computer to any cellular phone with HOT SPOT capability. This simple procedure will allow you to connect to any open server connection in the area. This is all you need to fulfill the expectations of all billiard fans around the world. We have aproximately 10,000 clients around the world (that have purchased our interactive training programs) a great number of them are waiting for a positive response.

It would be GREAT!!!!!!! If the USBA directorship could fulfill their expectations.

I'd bet that there wasn't a 'hot spot'. Casinos typically don't have internet or cellular service for obvious reasons...collusion. ;)

There is defenitely a WI FI signal available at Tropicana

I have called the casino. There is defenitely internet available in all rooms and WI FI available in the pool and convention area. In addition, there are several business right outside the casino (one of them HOTEL LA CONCHA) who might be able to provide access to their WI FI service either for free or for a modest fee.

Was it the Riviera that you talked to?

I have no doubt that the RIV has internet service available in room and for conventions, however:

If the tournament were held near any wagering area there would most assuredly be a blackout. Additionally, adjacent/next door internet service would also suffer the same.

I doubt they're trying to screw anyone. If they say internet isn't available then it's probably not.

Suprise ??

After all is said and done it seems to me that this information about the lack of wi-fi was available some time ago. I live 250 miles from Vegas and had considered attending the tournament but decieded to stay home given the constant discussion on the forum about the probability of streaming it. I then scheduled a return visit from Real King Cobra to redo the seams and again recover my old Brunswick 5x10.

Right on the strip

Hello Bob,

Yes, It was defenitely the Riviera Hotel and Casion at 2901 Las Vegas Boulevard South 702-734-5110

I am still thinking, to connect an IPhone or Windows Android to the Internet you don't even need a WIFI. The connection request goes to the phone network and comes back to the phone. It is actually the phone itself turning into a Hot Spot or WI-FI that provides the link to the streamming computer. .........Unless they can block that signal.

I'm not Bob, but the Tropicana is where the USBA Nationals are being held. That's about 3 miles away.

You must have missed my post in a different thread regarding internet at the Rivera.

The riviera does not have the technology available to put out the required signal and we have to rent a satellite for 10 days or so.

There goes about $6,000

Doing what you suggest here, what sustainable upload speed would you expect?

Would the subscription plan for that phone provide for approximately 150-200 GB of data transfer?

What would be the additional fees for going over the allotted amount of data transfer?

I'm still begging for the nationals to be recorded. Having a live stream isn't as important as having the matches saved.

A mobile phone isn't really a viable way to stream an event like this. I agree with Jamie, hopefully some matches are recorded. I'm surprised an event center like the Tropicana wouldn't have a way to stream something. We've streamed local pool tournaments at Native Minnesotan casinos in the past with no troubles. I'm guessing it's a price issue (with enough money anything is possible).

I think the Pavilion where the tables are is pretty new. I heard that they didn't even have electricity for the tables and had to run cables along the wall. They were still doing construction in part of the building.

I'll bet that SOMEONE brought a video camera to this event. Set it up and start recording the matches....please....please....please....

What about the pool guys, any video equipment over there?

It would be nice Jamie! But it looks like the ship has sailed for this years Nationals.

HEYS GUYS, this Professor-Q-ball! I did everything in my power to get live streaming at the Nationals. There was just no way I was able to manage it. It wasn't about money or anything else. The Tropicana is a first class Hotel Casino. They were under major construction and next time it will be live stream. As for any matches being recorded I managed to record two matches. I will try to see if I can get them up on my website when I get home.
This was truly a great event and a start of something that can be a destination for players and fans to come to Vegas and enjoy.

Also for your information they were 6 BRAND NEW IMPERATOR tables.
It is a huge undertaking not just bringing tables but putting the event on with 42 players with non-stop playing.

On a final note to all, here is my phone number if you wish to call me and I will answer any questions you may have. I am at the airport now and will be home on Monday.

I want to personally thank all the helpers with the scoreboards and cleaning the tables.

Paul,

Thank you for clearing things up. You Sir, are a class act as usual, what you do for 3-C is extreamly positive for the game.

Great Job!!!

USBA Nationals

I just returned home from the USBA Nationals.

Paul Frankel and Jim Shovak worked their a...... off. Every member of the USBA should be proud of their efforts whether you attended or not.

I just checked my program and saw no ads from billiardsystems and don't recall meeting any representative from their 10,000 member company in attendance.

How about a little less *****en and a little more support?
