brunswick centennial or aramith pro balls?

Super Pros and Centennials come out of the same factory (Aramith) and either set could be called "best". The most obvious differences are the number style on the balls and the higher price for the centennials because they are labeled Brunswick. Both sets are used in pro tournys. At most you may get a 50-50 split of "opinions" as an answer to your post.
While on the subject of who makes what for who -
Championship makes Tour Edition cloth - add some teflon to it and it's called Brunswick Centennial cloth.

its my understanding that both the Centennials and Super Pro balls are honed to around .001 tolerances, so playability wise they should pretty much be the same. if all your looking for is a great set of balls, go with the Super Pro set. i have both, and rarely ever play with my Centennials.
regarding the cue ball, you can buy just about any cue ball you want, including the measles. its whatever you prefer. get some Aramith ball polish and you can get rid of those stains and markings.

I like the looks of the Centennials. I think I've noticed less chalk sticking to the ball with the red circle and the measles balls than with the red dot and the blue circle. Most tournaments around here use the red circle and I like the Measles balls as well or better than any.
I don't know what the Pro Aramiths cost new, but I got my last set of NEW cenntenials for $160 from eBay.
No complaining about the cost of Centennials here.

Stranger than fiction. I think the BC's are much more attractive than the Pros... no contest. I'd never pay that much for the Pros as they look like just another set of balls.. imo. The BC's have a different and, I think, classy look. But it's all about opinion and personal taste and clearly, from what has become fact for you, my opinions and taste on pool balls differs from the majority that you've encountered.

I have a set of centennials I bought at a pool room for $40. They are in the trunk of my car, in case wherever I'm playing doesn't have decent balls. Never regretted dropping the cash for them.

I don't know about any olders players being "Old farts", but being a much younger player, I prefer BC's over the SAP's everytime, not only because of their style, but also because without a measles snowball, it means that it's harder for people to learn, how to play the same shots that you can play, without them having the knowledge or in some cases, not having thought of trying new shots before, to see what else they can learn
Also, the design of the BC's are good, especially the striped half of the set, as they are more very good for teaching beginners, about different amounts of English to use on the cueball, as well as being able to teach them where to hit the cueball, to get various types of spin and directional bounces when the cueball contacts a rail, whereas the SAP's, don't have this.
I am very much of the same view as JimS, the SAP's, still look too much like a regular everyday standard ball set and the TV set doesn't really look any different as reguards the actual style.
I had a set of BC's untill I sold them mid last year, to the room I play in, simply because I knew that they would get alot more use there, than sitting in my bedroom, but since I'm going back to playing full time again, I've decided to get another set of BC's, but not untill I get a few other things sorted first.

I recently bought a set of SAP's and think they play just as well as the BCs. My BC's are as old as my Gold Crown table.....40 years. They had turned yellow in color....so I thought it was time for a change. When I open my new billiards hall/bar....I will use the SAP's. I think one is just as good as the other and come down to personal preference.

As far as quality and performance go...it's half a dozen on the one hand, six on the other. As far as which is nicer looking, IMO the Centennials are just better looking.
