Nice cue....What is the joint made of?

i'm not sure exaclty what it's called. sherm adamson had a coffee can full of those black & white rings. he said , it's what brunswick used on thier two pc cues in the 50's & 60's. this customer wanted joint to be the same as a master stroke conversion i did last year

Who are you trying to fool Brent? Why are you trying to pass off Moori's as Talisman. Every Talisman I've ever seen (lots) has had layers that were wavy. Those tips pictured have very even, straight layers...looks a lot more like a Moori to me.;) If you have that kind of a Moori surplus then send me some...I'll trade ya a box of sponge...errr...I mean...Triangles.:D :D :D

you having troubles with mushy triangles too????

Good looking cues Brent , like the pearlesent butt plate you chose for this one. Gives it a classy ole school design. When will we see the butterfly in full flight?
Really , cues are looking good! Tried any of the brown stuff yet?
Later ,
Jim

BHQ- a review...

Brent built this cue for me.. to my specs... I have had the cue for about a month now- so it's time for a Review.
The good:
Brent was excellent to deal with.. we worked together on the design and build characteristics- to try to meet both our needs. Be sure to help him out by being as specific as possible, write things down,- and not changing your mind as much as I did:confused: . There are some things that Brent isn't "comfortable" with doing yet- such as inlays and metal rings/joints, and I didn't ask him to stretch (yet).
The cue was built exactly to my specifications. He changed the length (to move the entire points above the wrap), and lined up the points and buttsleeve wood as requested. I had the pearlescent rod sent to him for the Buttcap- and he was happy to use it. Joint-type, wrap color/style, and all dimensions were as specified.
All joints/seams are tight. The overall weight and balance point, are right-on within my (provided) specs. The 2-Shafts,ferrules,tips (Mooris) appear to be of good quality- and installed professionally. The Clear Finish is very good, it is even and deep. The overall "HIT" of this cue is very solid- indicating good materials and construction.

The Bad:
Brent is not perfect.. but I didn't expect perfection. There were a few things that need improvement.
The wrap was an Item I specified. It is white/green Linen- made to emulate the old Cortland Wrap from the '60s. To be fair- Brent had not installed this brand before- and he had to order it. The wrap is slightly above the level of the rest of the cue. If anything- I'd prefer it to be even or slightly below the buttsleeve and forearm. Again- it was probably just Brent's unfamiliarity with that material. Had he asked, or I had thought of it earlier- I would have told hime to check that- and I'm sure he would have done it.
The shafts do not match the joint "perfectly". I think the cause of this- is that Brent made the shafts AFTER the cue was completed. The delay was his trying to find the best shaft materials he could- from any supplier. I think when he gets a good supply of quality shafts- he can match the sizes perfectly to the cue- as it is being built.
The original bumper he installed sucked! (:) just my opinion) It was a 5-second swap with a bumper I had on hand.

I would rate the cue a solid 8 of 10 on a general scale. I don't believe in giving out 10's... and my Cognoscenti is only a 9... YMMV.

Thanks again Brent for building me a fine cue.
Ray

thanks ray
talk to ya in a few days
not making any excuses here, but the joint work was done on two different lathes
mine & someone elses
found the error was in mine which has been corrected by the way
amazing what problems 1 or 2 1000ths can create
i can't believe you don't like those flat bumpers ;)
thought that was the trend
