Brunswick Gold Crown III

I bought a Gold Crown III today for $500.00 from some old lady. Is that a good deal and are there any issues I should know about on these tables.? The table is in great condition, just a couple of dings around the skirting. It's a drop pocket table. I have wanted a Gold Crown for quite a while, but don't know the differences in the tables between the I and IV.
I'm pretty juiced!

yes that is one heck of a deal , normally around $2,000 for a used one when you can find them.

If you overtighten the rail bolts (say, with an impact wrench), you can drive them right through the rail top. This might be the case for many tables, but I know it to be true for the GC III because I've seen it. And no, it wasn't me that made that mistake.
 
I wouldn't care what was wrong with the table, a gold crown for $500 is a steal.

Congratulations, you got a great deal there. Have you actually had the table broken down and delivered to your house yet? If not I suggest you post your location on "Talk to a Mechanic" forum and you will get suggestions of a good mechanic in your area. The mechanic will be able to tell you if there are any issues with the table, and the best time to deal with them is when you have it broken down.

The main things I've heard going wrong on the GCIII is the rail rubber often needs replacing as it was made with an inferior type to that used in older GC's. Other than that you may want to consider having the mechanic tighten the pockets a bit and ensure they are all the same size, as GC III's tend to have fairly large and inconsistent pockets.
 
Thanks AuntyDan, I haven't had it delivered yet, I am having the mechanic pick it up and deliver and install tomorrow. He is a very good mechanic in the San Francisco bay area with excellent references. I will definately have him check the rubber and pockets to make sure all is well. By the way it's a 4.5' x 9' table.

Hey poolhustler, you sound like a very caring and giving person, but I think I'm gonna keep the table for now, that's pretty funny!

Get the cushions replaced with Artemis and get the pockets shimmed by Ernesto Dominguez.

Why would ANYONE use an impact wrench on the rail bolts?:eek: A ratchet wrench or socket driver is the proper tool.

Yes, but the original installer would have had to know that to know that!

And if the original installer didn't know that they might have put them on with an impact wrench, in which case you'd probably need one to get them off again. (Kind of like how car manufacturers use impact wrenches to put on wheel nuts int the factory but give you nothing to get them off again with except a POS free wrench that'll never possibly work unless you're King Kong.)
 
Hey.....you got an awesome deal on a great table. I just picked up a Gold Crown I that was in a house for over thirty years and has only been covered two times in its life!! I am going to restore it and set it up soon.

I tried to get a GC I off Ebay, but got outbid, it sold for $1610.00. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get your table for and was it the original owner? How much work does your table need? Look forward to your response.
