I found a 1960's Brunswick Sport King for $1000 and it has new Brunswick speed rails. I think I can get the guy to lower the price some. Is this a good table and what is a fair price?

Thanks

Great table and anything less than 1K is a steal. That is, if it is in good condition. Many of these tables came out of poolrooms and got beat up pretty bad.

Table

You might want to stop over in the talk to a mechanic section of the forum and ask a few questions about that table...
I would like to see a picture of the table your looking at'
There is more to a table than just slapping new cushions on it!

I've had one since 1968. I got it out of a 6 table room for $550 (then) & I sanded & stained the side boards mahogoney to match the rails as they were painted beige. It is a very solid commercial table but the base is nothing fancy & the legs are in fact made of furniture grade MDF type material & are not solid wood. I have had no problem with the table. The leveling must all be done with 'shims' as there are no mecahical adjustments. The base must be shimed level first & then each of the 3 piece slates must be shimed even using playing cards if needed. Once you get it level, it stays level unless the floor changes. I've seen them go for as high as $2,000, but usually between $750 & $1,500. Good Luck with it. I 'love' mine.

A sport king is an 'ok' table.
The frames were known to 'sag' over time.

Many of these tables were used in military installations and other similar institutions.

They are OK for home use but they are NOT a great table.
Many of them are just worn out by now because these are probably 50 years old and the rails get chewed up.

By the time you move it - recover it- and make repairs, you are in $500 more than it cost so to me it is worth about $500 - but I am sure the mechanic section could help out more.

Sportsking related:

I looked at one that had 'carom' inserts for the pockets. Those inserts had matching sheet metal portions on the tops that fit the pocket openings and became flush with the pocket castings.

Was this an available option with the table? Or an aftermarket item specific to this table model?

It looked like a good home table. btw my $500 offer was declined.

Flynn's?

The first real taste of Pool came for me on a Sportking also out of a 6 table room in Maple Hts. Ohio, the room was called Flynn's.I loved those tables.
