hey guys i got a quick question i was thinkin about gettin rid of my old wille hoppe 2 piece cue and seen the prices have jumped up on them in the past months? i got mine for a older fella and he swore it never had the sticker on the butt but its in great shape and he had another but to go with it for braking, the other butt is a sneaky pete style brunswick from the same era, it is the professional line with the hard cap at the end!

any idea why the price jump, is it that these are being redone by custom cuemakers ?

ill get pics on here today yet, i wasnt really worried about its value as trying to figure out why they have jumped in price, was thinking they areusing the cue as a blank since if i am correct its a full splice!!!!
 
Maybe I have missed something, but I haven't seen a drastic price change in those in used condition, except for the very few that have been available in exquisite mint condition with original shipping tubes etc. Those command way more as collectibles like a coin would in that condition. The current custom cues that have been made from Hoppes are priced according to the market and cuemaker's level of detail and work performed on the cue. A Hoppe in fair-good condition with fairly even points to be used as the base for a custom conversion full splice is still going for anywhere between $250-400 and rarely more. IMO, if it could use refinishing, then it is best slated for conversion into a custom player. I had one with problems that was converted and it was one solid hitting cue. They are not as rare as some might think. I know one lady that has 6 in 95% condition that came with the house she bought over 30 years ago along with the Gold Crown that was in the basement. Hers are in collectible condition with perfect labels and appear practically unplayed.

Condition, straightness, age, points and veneer execution, provenance, or original paperwork are attributes that help determine how valuable as a collectible it is. Just my opinion.

Depending on many factors, yes some people look to have them converted....but the most wanted hoppe cues are the 1-piece titlist cues since they are easier to convert than the 2-piece hoppe pro cues.
 
The lack of a label will significantly decrease the value as it is the main pointer to the actual age of the cue.
 
i looked all over and in the 3rd edition of the blue book and pretty much looks like its from the late 50's or early early 60's, plus it matches sthe story of the cue being bought new about that time frame with the hard cap on the btt not the rubber big stopper, plus its a 2 piece, am i wrong?

Agreed, there has been no major average market price jump that I have seen. If you watch eBay, you do periodically see someone who REALLY REALLY wants an item and is willing to pay much more than market price for it, but this is an anomaly rather than a new sustainable market price.

Cue makers hunting for conversion stock more frequently target the Titlist blank because there is just more cue to work with than trying to convert something that has actually already been converted. There are also more Titlists available than Hoppe Pros, and their price tends to be lower since their shafts tend to be warped or cracked, and their owners think this makes them less valuable. And yes, the Hoppe Pros are full spliced.

I have spoken to people who claim to be the original owner of their Hoppe Pro cue that never had a butt label. I also have one, though I am not the original owner. True, the butt label is the primary means of dating these cues, but there are other "cues," including the Hoppe ring, forearm signature, and length of the wrap.
 
ill get pics up here soon for some help, im curious about the other but as well he got to use as a break cue but didnt have the original shaft for it but was a bruswick of the same time as well, i just noticed they used to do around 150-250 on ebay nad they have jumped up a bid to around 3-350 if im correct! thanks guys for the help so far i luv it i found this site!

GOT A NEW CAMERA TODAY, so im gonna try to get anyone intersted a few better and closeup pics! try! im not the greatest at gettin clear closeups
