Brutal kick/skid in snooker

come on boys ,he was trying to soft dig the cue and he chunked it.just watch his right arm and the cue.the only static around is in his head after he did it.

We get kicks like that on Simonis 860 about 2 times on average per game of one pocket. Its rediclous, the only time we dont is when the table is 100% clean, after 30 minutes we start getting the balls jumping so high you can see light under them, the OB goes dead straight and you miss the shot by 5". Thats why I'm not in favor of Simonis cloth, before on the old simonis 860 there was a bit more nap on it and I never had those problems, but here in vegas with the dry air we have to fade kicks, skids , jumps all the time. We shoot straight in shots in 1P not very hard and sometimes you can see the OB slide 8" before it starts to roll.

Fatboy...when I get to Vegas I'll check out your table for skids....at $10 a game playing 8ball....shouldn't cost you much more than $250-$300 to show you it's your stroke'n poke causing the cue to act crazy....because if it don't happen to me while we're "Testing" the table'n cloth at $10 a game...then the cost of learning how to shoot will be worth it to you...:D:D
 
I can find and upload other videos of kicks on screw shots, in snooker anyway. Kicks happen a lot in snooker. Higgins knew it was a kick, the pro that was commentating knew it was a kick. Ex-pro Darren Morgan sitting beside him in the commentray box knew it was a kick. These people play and watch a lot of snooker. It was a kick.:grin:

The broadcasts of the 2010 World Snooker Championship served up some super slow motion shots. Don't know if any made it into the clips that I posted in the Snooker section.

In some examples of kicks, the cue ball was bouncing before it hit the object ball. In other words, the cue had not hit the cue ball level.

In others, the cue ball was still skidding and climbed the object ball. That is the cue ball hit the object ball above centre.

If the contact point of the cue on the cue ball made contact with the object ball, the action of the spinning cue ball on the object ball would be increased.

Chalk increases friction.
That is why it is used on cue tip.
Chalk on tip transfers to cue ball.
If the chalk on cue ball contacts object ball, what happens is different than if two clean surfaces made contact.

You're forgetting these other people that play the game and commentate on it for a living - you are telling them that they are wrong! If this was a snooker forum in the UK there would be no one arguing this point, we've seen it a million times. I haven't said anything about what can or can't happen on pool tables, but that can and does happen in snooker. I'll maybe upload another example to show everyone but it really shouldn't be necessary. Snooker players are connoisseurs of kicks. It's like trying to convince someone that Coke and Pepsi don't taste the same. If you can't tell, I don't know what to say!

Of course kicks happen. Nobody said otherwise.

The commentators did not have the benefit of slow motion replays when they made the comment. We do. So I don't see any merit to mentioning the commentators acumen in making the call because you can view the replay over and over.

I don't agree that people would not debate it in snooker forums at all. That's what forums are for. Discussion. All hail the great commentators who are infallible, even without replays? I think not :)

Believe it or not, that's totally up to you, but a cue ball traveling in the reverse direction of the roll, meaning draw english....can not cling to a ball straight on and make it jump...that my friend...is impossible. There is only ONE way a cue ball can make an object ball jump...with reverse english on the cue ball....straight on....and that's if the cue ball was jumped first...and hits the object ball above center...which WILL result in the object ball jumping as the result. Snooker or pool....I don't care which game you want to play, it's impossible...so go back to the drawing board and find out for yourself. I've been around this game for tooooo long not to know how to play it....or how it's played. Fact is, I've used that very shot...drawing the cue ball and causing it to jump at the same time to come into contact with the object ball...in order to jump the object ball over another ball that was in the way of my pocketing the ball I wanted to make...so I know the shot can be controlled;) sooooooo go back to the drawing board and start again:D

It's a kick of the first order no doubt. Happens mostly on slow roll throughs but I have them happen on draw shots as well probably 60/40, it leaves a nice mark on the object ball as well that takes some cleaning off. Very chalk and humidity dependent.
Happens less often in pool but still does happen.

100% wrong. Find anyone who understands the physics of the situation, and they will tell you.

The shot you're talking about involves elevating the cue, not a miscue as you originally said. If your point is that the object ball cannot jump from a straight draw shot without a miscue, I know that's not the case! And the different games and conditions are a factor. Kicks in snooker far outweigh kicks in pool and it's not even close.

So, a kick on a straight draw shot with no miscue, or trickshot style jump? I'll post back at some point with a clip...
 
If someone like Dr Dave wanted to test this with a camera couldn't he rub chalk all over the balls to make kick happen?

Well that's perfect, good post.

Shame I had already started uploading another example before I saw this! I'll post the link when it's done anyway, might as well now. These snooker professionals have more experience of playing the game at a higher level than anyone in this thread (If we have any 4-time World Snooker Champions lurking here, feel free to chime in). They know how balls react on a snooker table. Anyone who watches enough snooker can see it.

The shot with elevation doesn't kill the backspin like a kick does. Look at where the cue ball finishes in the Higgins clip - nowhere.

Here's something for you to check out. ANYTIME you shoot with draw english/reverse spin on the cue ball...to some extent the cue ball is airborn....even if only for a split second. Take a look at the break lines on a pool table for example. From where the cue ball was shot from, launched...there's a space of little or no white back spin marks on the way to the rack, then before the cue ball actually hits the rack, the cue ball comes down and bounces first, and again, and again...then makes contact with the object ball in the rack. Now, if the cue ball is still up in the air at that moment of contact...it will deflect up and off the rack. Some Pro Players have that little jump on the break timed so perfect that they can get the cue ball to jump straight up into the air...while balls are flying all around under the cue ball...then fall right back down to the playing surface and roll very little...keeping the cue ball in the center of the spread balls...instead of having it kicked into a pocket or somewhere else on the table.

The timing of the jump of the cue ball with draw english depends largely on the distance between the cue ball and the object ball. The greater the distance, the better the chance the cue ball will be sliding in reverse english....but sliding flat on the cloth and not bouncing. The closer the distance, the greater the chance of jumping the cue ball on the object ball, if the cue ball is struck with the perfect amount of force to time the jumping cue ball on the object ball.


Now, prove me wrong;)
