BSCP vs. Alex..this is the video,,judge for yourself

If that video is the basis for Alex's misdemeanor, they should have also reprimanded other Filipino players like Bustamante who had cursed, in Filipino of course, on live international TV :(

Include Efren Reyes in that list, LOL.

Apples & oranges. All but one of your examples takes place AFTER the event is over. That is the proper time to show emotion and do whatever. The one example that's not - the touchdown - will get an NFL Player a stiff fine.

But Alex ripped his jungle dance while his opponent was preparing to shoot.

I stand by my assessment - doing the Funky Chicken/Boogie dance while your opponent is doing their PSR was inappropriate. It's fine for a friendly game but not a Sanctioned/Televised Event.

Had Alex waited until the Match was over - none of this would be happening.

it seems as though i have seen film clips of pga golfers who literally jumped in a lake surrounding the 18th green when they won a tourny.you know those rednecks would never celebrate a nascar victory w/champagne spewing,or football players throwing the ball in the stands after scoring a td , or world class jockeys pumping their fist after winning a breeders cup race, or soccer players showing theri tits after a world cup victory, or baseball players taking a bow after coming out of the dugout to celebrate a world series , game deciding homerun. maybe all these "losers" should be banned for letting their emotions shine through.

I actually wonder how muchs sports do you actually watch. Other examples of that occur during a game ...
The stupid "dance" Football players due after a Sack.
Basketball players who seem to be required to hop around and flex there muscles after every dunk. Or the ones that need to run back up the court with there arm still in the air after making a 3-pointer.
Curtain calls do not occur only at the end of baseball games.
How about the batters that feel the need to break their bats after striking out.

watching the video it isnt really sharking and Alex was sitting before his opponent was even at the table. So I dont see how Alex interfered with is PSR.

Fyi, Alex made that move or jiggle right after he fluked a safety, not while his opponent was preparing a shot. I saw the game live on tv, as a matter of fact he lost that rack and match.

I don't think the etiquette in any other sport is relevant here.

In cuesports, many consider it appropriate to make an apologetic gesture when a shot produces a result far superior to that which could logically have been expected just after the strike of the cueball. Such a gesture is almost automatic and expected in three cushion billiards, and many pool players, the Asians in particular, are often inclined to offer such a gesture after a lucky result.

I'm sure I'm not alone in the view that if my opponent goes into animated celebration after getting a lucky roll, it can rub me the wrong way and might be interpreted as poor sportsmanship.

Nonetheless, even if some viewed Alex Pagulayan's conduct outside the boundaries of exemplary sportsmanship, so what? Under no circumstances should any kind of penalty arise from this.

I'm torn on this one.

Whereas banning Alex may seem inappropriate, his actions were much "worse" than doing a jig in the end zone after a TD. Yet the NFL has banned that type of behavior, finding it "Unsportsmanlike Conduct".

Yes, in the NFL you get fined instead of banned - but why bother fining a Pool Player? (Blood from a turnip) :p

In many other major, well organized sports, you could not act like Alex did and get away with it. Golf - can you imagine Tiger jumping like a giddy teenager after a great shot? Tennis and most other major Non-Team sports would frown on this childish behavior as well.

Before someone retorts with "those Sports have Sponsors and those Players make gazillions" --- which do you think came first??

I am very old school, also been a ref for 25yrs. If I see conduct that is intolerable I will say something, I did not see if here. If he would have been disrespectful in anyway I would say so but I don't think he crossed the line.

Looks like any other day with Alex, just having fun. Maybe there is something we are not seeing. What I'm watching here just doesn't seem all that bad. In fact, I enjoy watching Alex for just this reason.

I have to believe there are some relevant facts we are not yet privy to. May have more to do with demands for expense money and other compensation. I've heard some unsubstantiated reports along these lines as well. It will all come out in the wash eventually.

I'm not rushing to judgement either way.

Sheesh, I'm guilty too...

Tonight, in an 8 ball tournament, after defeating quite a better player, and after shaking his hand, I growled out a Huaaaahhhh!!!, assuming a victorious martial arts stance. Man was that a great moment, for me at least...

My run out made me feel awesome, why shouldn't I be able to express my joy?

Flex

Edited: That Huaaaahhhhhh!!! was executed well after the handshake, and nowhere near my opponent... He's a cool guy.

i absolutely agree with you jay that there is something underneath that we are not seein here....((who ever disagree with you anyway:) )),

but what pisses many people is the official reasoning by he BSCP that his antics at that match is a disrespect to the game and an embarrassment to the "epicenter of pool - the Phil....

I agree, :D

They just don't want it to appear like it's a "payback," so they came up with that silly excuse.

He was using a Mezz with a lot of dings and nicks.. and some part of the nylon wrap has come undone.. Alex said he doesn't take care of his cues that much..

I think Alex should be banned from every organized pool event in the world. How dare him behave in a way to embarrass the Philippines? Ban that guy that is always grinning and rubbing the back of his head when he screws up or another player makes an exceptional play too. It is an obvious sharking move that he has used for years to get under other player's skin. Need to ban Francisco too, I remember when he won his first big event. The way he grinned from ear to ear and shouted certainly wasn't dignified.

Really I think that all of the current Filipino players should be banned and an all new group selected because I can't think of one that hasn't acted like a living breathing human being at one time or another. Surely they have all embarrassed the Philippines, the world epicenter of pool!

Hu

Are you serious??? If you are, what's up your azz.? I don't see anything wrong or sharking for that matter in this video. Alex got a bit animated after coming out of a tough situation. From your comments, sems like you have some problems with Filipinos. Did you lose a bunch of money betting against them?

Check out Efren at the end of this video! Totally unacceptable! Why do we allow this guy to play pool? WHY?!?! It's pool, not a dance competition Mr. Reyes.

It's a reaction after pocketing the winning ball. How different is it had he pumped his fist or jumped with joy? If you have a disdain for expressing emotions, feel free to propose a rule in pro tours that players are not to show any reaction else it will be a loss of game. Let's see how far it gets. If it does, pool will will be dry and boring to watch - 2 people poking balls around a table. BTW, there should be no audio either. It's too distracting. Million dollar sponsors will come pouring money in. ;)

sorry if this point was made already but if not, wasnt alex replaced by jeff de luna? who is AT LEAST as animated as alex.they both have the same kind of happy go lucky type behavior at the table which i tend to enjoy.if you havent seen him play then you should if you get a chance, awesome player with a nasty break(one of the best ive seen).

Unfortunately, we don't have a sarcasm smiley here.
Think outside the box bro! :D
