buckhorn

I have been looking a little myself. If I come across anything decent, I will let you know.

I used to have a Bill Hagan cue about 25 years ago. Bill's cues all sported Staghorn joints and Buckhorn ferrules. At that time I was playing a lot of straight pool and the cue played alright for that game as a lot of juice nor shooting hard occurred often. However, the cue was worthless for playing 9-ball as when using much juice and shooting harder the cue ball deflected so much that the shots would be missed.

That cue cured me of ever wanting buckhorn ferrules.

With all due respect to the cuemaking genius that you are:

IMHO - it was the cue not the ferrule, nor the joint.

I have done a few with both joints and ferrules with good results.

edit:
to clarify, the cues were near identical to a few others I had made
with phenolic ferrules and joint collars. Th staghorn versions seem just as good.
I even liked them better. But maybe, that's just me.

For those keeping score at home - "staghorn" is buckhorn from an Indian deer,
specifically the Sambar.

it's a " hit or miss " on ebay
until you have them and start cutting them up and turning,
you never know what's gonna be usable

1st full antler handle i did, i lucked out like a bandit
NO ONE bid on it except me
bid $100, got it for $15 shipped
seller actually screwed up on the ad and said free shipping
it cost $13 to mail it to me
she made a whoppin' 2 bucks
when i saw how good the pc was, i reimbursed her for the shipping
