Buddy Hall Book

It's going for $83.76 right now with about 5 days left!! Incredible. Maybe I ought to rething my decision to keep mine.

Naw! I'd rather have the book than the hundred or so bucks I'd get for it. I'd just spent the $$ on somethin dumb.

Jim,
If you will copy it at Kinko's, I'll give you $50 plus copying cost. The publisher wouldn't sell me one; how about you? If you think the copying would ruin the book, then please disregard this message.

Maybe Woody himself is auctioning it... Does anyone know whatever happened to him? I believe he and Buddy parted ways years back.

Good question. I was just reading this book last night and was thinking that Woody seemed to have really been quite a leech. He seemed to have Buddy convinced that his presence in Buddy's life was the reason behind him regaining his Champion status, and he tried to convince the reader of the same thing. I guess Buddy eventually caught on, and Woody is back driving trucks or working at a pool room. The book, though interesting, is terribly boring...and I really don't understand the extremely long interlude's to Woody's life. All in all though a great read. Just make sure you have your magnifying glass. I have a copy I have one I'll sell if someone's interested, but I'm not dieing to sell it. I've read it so many times it usually just sits on the shelf. Make me an offer.

I am currently reading this book the first time and I gotta say it is a good read so far.

The one thing that I noticed is Woody spends a lot of time talking about the first time they met. It is almost not right. He even has a hand drawn picture of the first time he saw Buddy. I am sorry but I don't care how much I like my friends I have never hand drawn a picture of the first time we met. (its not even a good drawing). Reading it makes me feel a bit creepy.

I find it exciting, but extremely dull.

It just seems like Woody found Buddy at a particularly weak moment in his life. He was getting off drugs and alcohol, and Woody found a way to "leech" on for a free ride. I mean, all he did was go to tournaments and say a prayer with Buddy..and that was it. Sort of his personal spiritual advisor. I think also he enjoyed the "limelight" that was associated with being Buddy's road partner and wanted to stay a part of that for as long as he could. Does anyone know how Buddy is doing these days? Am I correct in thinking that he owns/operates a pool room?

I have not got to the part where he goes to the tournaments with him yet. But according to Woody, Woody was one of the greatest straight pool players alive. I cannot believe that anyone that was hustling 2 bit games was any better than a B-C player. I would like to hear from people that actually knew Woody and could say for sure how good he was. He even admits that he rarely ran more than 14 balls more than a couple of times in the book. Now he either played down like he said to win a couple of bucks or he had a problem setting up his break shot :P

It is probably the situation of Minnisota Fats was the greatest gambler alive... If you don't believe it, just ask him...

I just saw buddy a couple of months ago in Melborne FL and he was his jovial self. He lives in and around the Tampa FL area. Smorgassbored sees him quite a bit @ Planet 9 ball over there. As for him running a room I have not heard that. But I could be wrong (and am sure will be pointed out if I am).

You got a link? I checked under buddy hall, Rags Rifleman and the only thing that pops up is the 325 winner.

I would bet the reason it went for 62 is no one could find it.
