Buddy Hall talks "Deflection"

Good point! You can watch these legends play 9 ball later on in the early 80s, when ESPN (I think) had all of the old champions playing each other. These are all over YOUTUBE. Most of them looked a bit lost trying to play 9 ball or this weird 7 ball variation they were playing. I enjoyed watching Irving Crane play. Even playing those goofy games, he was ALL business in his tuxedo, and Balabushka, and serious as a heart attack about winning. At one point he found a sweet spot that allowed him to make the 7 ball on the break. I forget how many consecutive games he repeated that same break with quick wins.
Sigel said when he was a kid he'd play Crane and ol Irv would hit him with a 200package and then lock him up, dead safe. Said he was brutal even playing for nothing.

He was a kindly, gentile looking old fella, but a murderer on the green felt. Same as Lassiter.

Yes. Caudron uses a Longoni cf LunaNera with 11.8 tip.
Fred stays wood, maybe even wood pin?!?

The shaft is his longoni model...fc 10. Hornbeam that I believe is impregnated to be black thru and thru.

I played with one on Tuesday and yes, they're fabulous

as black-balled joins the crew of falling for the advertisements.
Not sure what to tell you.

Hitting a billiard ball is a completely different experience from hitting a pool ball and there is absolutely a discernable difference between quality shafts...and especially between those and mid-grade ones.

i can see that. driving those big ass 3c balls around probably requires a stiff but still lively shaft.

Isn't this the video where the announcers said Grady was experimenting with hitting everything center ball? That would/could mess up your aim and cue ball path for a while.

I think the commentators were trying to make sense of what was going on in the match. I finally went back and watched the whole match. This was two exceptional player playing inexplicably bad.

Oh, it's quite un-inexplicatible.

That's what happens when you take a 1p pill and try to play 9b!

ive played with 12.5 to 14 and dont see any real difference after you play a few racks. its all in your mind.

and when i put on a new tip which is 14 or bigger to start i dont touch it and let it hang over and play with it as is, to break it in. and see if it pops off so i dont need to redo things all over.

and after two racks i shoot just fine with this big flat thing over hanging my ferrel. and cut it down a little at a time.

i play both games with the same shaft. and cuestick. do fine at both and dont see where hitting a billiard ball needs a stiffer shaft or a heavier one or whatever.

if you learn to think its equipment that is holding you back its you that is holding you back.

i visited some friends and they wanted to golf. they had an old bag in the attic that had 2 old wooden woods and 4 thru 9 irons rusted, some off brand from the 1950's or 60's with hard rubber original grips, and a few old balls. no real practice and i still shot in the 70's about where i normally did.

Hey man you left out the part where the course you played was 7500 + yards, course rating of 78 & slope of 140 give or take.

I will ask you a straight up question - just who are you? What is your name? This is the year 2026 man you aren't hustling around in the shadows any longer.

yes in a way i am. but have done really well in my life so it is not substantial enough to be bothered with smaller bets.
plus no longer a spring chicken.

most courses i played were links and public courses, many 7000 yards. when gambling you play what they want, and from the tips to whites or blues.

my above post was to say that its not the equipment that determines how well you play, it can only help a little bit.
