I spoke to Buddy last week. He is doing ok. Needs to lose some weight.

I may have Buddy on the show soon! Keep an eye here for notices. TR McIntosh commisioned Samsara and Joss East to produce a "Buddy Hall" line of cues. Joss making the lower end cues and Samsara making the higher end cues.

Have not seen one yet.

Buddy plays almost daily in Metropolis, Illinois.

I am sure he would love you to come to Paducah/Metropolis and plays some cheap.

As I heard it, he will be playing in a local tournament June 18-20.

Metropolis, Illinois is Buddy's home town and a lot of people think he's from Kentucky, but that's not correct......

Didn't Buddy recently lose a lot of weight?

It's across the river from Paducah, Ky. and Buddy spent a lot of time in those pool halls too in his youth.

Buddy reminds me too much of Steve Mizerak. He MUST lose a lot of weight soon, or it will be too late. I tried talking to him (just like Steve) but my pleas fell on deaf ears. Oh sure, he shook his head and said he knows, but there was no commitment.

You're a good man Jay!

That's too bad. Buddy is only 65 and it would sure be a shame if something happened to him. I hope he gets serious and tries to lose the weight.

It's funny how he was skinny as a rail when he was young:

Buddy should have the lapband thing done, I need it also but I'm struggling with the cash right now but it is amazing how quick you can have better health that way. May God bless Buddy one of the best to ever pick up a cue.--Leonard

A very overweight Steve Mizerak died at 61. He promised me over and over he was going on a diet. Usually he would make those promises while consuming a meal big enough for three men.

PoolBum...It's not funny. You'd probably be amazed how many poolplayers were skinny in their youth, but gain weight as they age. It's a sad commentary...but it isn't funny. It gets a LOT harder to lose weight the older you get.

Thank you, I'm well aware of that.

I meant "it's funny" as in "isn't it a shame."

Most everybody...

Most everybody was skinny in their youth and gained weight as they aged. Pool players don't hold the patent on this.

My niece had the lapband and it has done WONDERS for her. She has lost a whole person in two years. None she is looking and feeling great.

For those who cannot lose weight and keep it off, this seems to be a relatively safe surgery that is effective for losing and keeping weight off.

Buddy and I, have been the best of friends for over 30 plus years, we were closer than any of our other friends. Yes, Buddy is over weight, but he's still a good person, don't cut him short in any way. Buddy has also had a lung problem, I hope and pray that he will loose weight and get healthy.
He's OK now, and wants to loose weight. Suzanne and I, are going to visit him this summer, when we get a break.

I know you two have been friends for a long time but about all you can do is be his friend and not alienate him. Surprisingly, losing weight has to be a selfish thing, one has to do it for themselves and no one else. When that light comes on they will lost weight. If it doesn't they never will or will temporarily but always gain it back. It is interesting that someone like a great pool player or anyone who is successful in their lives in other aspects, who obviously has discipline and personal drive can't bring it to bare on something like weight loss. I always look at the late Johnny Carson who was successful are anything he put him mind to but lacked the ability to quit smoking no matter how many times he tried and it killed him. We can be strong and weak at the same time.

It's important to understand that, for most grossly obese people, the problem is psychological. Regardless of their genuine desire to exert the will to stop over eating, they are powerless to do so. Over eating is very similar to alcoholism. Once a person has had an epiphany, and has realized that they are totally powerless concerning over eating, they then can start the process of recovery.

The principles and program of Overearters Anonymous is very effective in allowing a person to discover the basis of their problem, and how to live life without over eating.

Psychological counseling may also be of benefit for a compulsive overeater. But on their own, a compulsive overeater is not capable of staying on a diet, regardless of the threat to their health and life.

I sincerely hope Buddy will find the help that he needs.

im sure if pool world commmited to Buddy that we would find a way to pay for most of it, I'd be in for a starting off with a good size piece. Buddy might take us up on it and get the Band

someone who knows him should sit down with him have a heart to heart talk with him and see if he would do it, I have made several threads on here for years about my concern for buddy's weight. He is just to good to leave behind when it is fixable-aint no shame in that we need to all help him.
