Build a champion in a month or 2. Is this possible?

A player has to learn how to put the finish on it......

A game like Jon and Zach are playing is a Perfect Example of players not putting the finish on the job.

As soon as they get behind the one focuses harder. As soon as one gets ahead they let up.

A play not only needs to play well but they have to want to win above anything else.

I myself am guilty of this. Especially in a tournament where I am the clear favorite. Not putting the hammer down until I'm way behind. Sometimes this mindset loses me the match.

This is how the clear cut favorite loses.

Niether one of these guys gave up mentally though. They both came back punching when they got down.

This is what Zach needs to learn. Keep the heat on from start to finish. Not just when the situation is desperate.

2 men a van and the road.........

20 hours and dead even is a grind for sure...time to mix it up a bit...will be interesting to see what game they decide to do.

I don't see why anything different would be played. Zach wanted to play an ahead set, he got what he asked for.

Time for one of them to man up (focus as Gene said) and win the set.

Action in Dubuque

Gene, I would like say how much I appreciate you working with my son and then my wife and I as well. Kind gestures like that are not soon forgotten, from a father to a father...........Thank you very much.

One month down 1 to go?

Well one month is down, and 1month remains to your 2 months to a Champion.

Are you guys beating on the door step? Has your bankroll entered 6 figures yet?:cool:

It's nice to read about a real road trip instead of good players running around trying to trap corpses.
Hope you write a book about your life in pool.

Winding down in Des Moines........

We're just about ready to move on.

Need to make a decision on which way to go.

Might go to South Dakota or we might head east.

All depends on how many lessons I get lined up either way.

As long as we stay out of the smoke it's a winner no matter where we go.

My lungs are still hurting from my 7 month road trip through the south. It's been 3 weeks now out of the smoke.

Today is the first day I have felt human This has really put a scare in me. We only have one life. I don't mind the dying part, I just don't want to feel the way I have for the last month before it happens.

90% of all lung cancer is caused from cigerrette smoke. If you don't believe it just look it up on the internet.

Dead people don't complain. That's one reason this merry go round with smoking keeps going on. If the dead people could vote there would be no smoking anywhere there are other people.

2 months is a long time to have a chest cold and then pneumonia. I just hope I have dodged this trecherous bullet.

It's really sad but in the non smoking states where they have laws that state you have to be so many feet away from the entrance door when smoking. At most places that are no smoking you have to get the smokers to move before you can get in the door. A direct hit of second hand smoke just hurts my lungs right now.

There is a reason for this law. I sure wish the smokers would abide by it.

I whined a little about it to Jim here at Big Dogs. He seemed to feel that it wasn't that big of a problem. I disagree.

I usually hold my breath when I get within 30 feet of these , in the way smokers. It's funny when one of them says hi and I don't reply because I'm holding my breath.

I could go on and on about this smoke because of the negative effect it is having on my life because i love pool and wanted to see some of these great pool halls in the south. And of course I'm getting the worst of the smoke when these places are packed for a pool tourny for 2 or 3 days.

But when it is conclusively proved that 90% of cancer is caused by cigerette smoke, how can there even be any arguement.

The smokers don't have a lung, or I mean a leg to stand on when lighting up around other people.

Anyway. I just want to say I feel bad for all the non smoking players that I have met that have to endure this problem to play pool leagues everywhere.

Someday soon the whole USA will have it right.

2 men a van and the road...........

New game tomorrow........

Come to South Dakota after stopping in dubuque

I don't know all the details but Zack set up a game with Ryan Benke tomorrow at big dogs.

This should be a good test for Zach. I hear this Ryan is right on top of his game.

$1000 match. Probably an ahead set to 10.

I'll post the time tomorrow for those who are interested and want to sweat the action in person or want some of the rail.

Sounds like good action, that would be a good game

Check the smoking laws

I don't know how it will end.

That's why we play. If we knew ahead of time nobody will play.

How's it going pete. Hope it's all good.

Check out the smoking laws in the states you would pass through going East? Are you guys going to the DCC >? in Indiana? :frown:

Going to see if they will stream this........

I'm going to ask Jim if they can stream this. The stream is set up for a bar table but it might be possible to move it over to the big table.

I'll post on here if i get it done.

If not sorry.

2 men a van and the road........

Zack Marquardt VS Ryan Benke

9 ahead for $1000 9 ball

on a 9' diamond table with pro cut pocket

Bob, the manager is going to set up the stream. All that's left is Ryan to show up and it's game on.

Should be a good one. These 2 young guns can both play.....

Gene, who won the grand, Jon or Zach?

Jeff Livingston

PS I'm looking forward to seeing how your work with our team's fairer pool player comes out. She's been so focused and trying so hard to get better, I knew it was time for you to enter the picture. It's been 2-3 years only for her since she decided to get good. She couldn't possibly do it in months (she holds a job....for you pool players that's where you put in labor everyday and someone pays you for that ), but she's grown more than most of the league players I've known for decades who have stopped growing long ago. Thanks for the lesson for her. I bet she'll see you again for a full lesson when you get back in town.

(edited)I was answering Jeff, but deleted for my respect of Gene. Although 3 people have green rep'd me for posting it.

They quit for the night on friday even again. Jon showed up Sat. to continue play. Zach said, "nah I don't want to play anymore" After some discussion they decided to play sunday. Not sure what happened after that. But for some reason they are not playing.

So far here this kid has 1. made a game one night, then the next day didn't show up for the game, and on a phone call said i am not coming unless we change what we agreed to do already. 2. Asked for, then agreed to play an ahead set. Then after seeing he couldn't win got to even and quit. Why out of town players aren't being asked to post is beyond me.

This is why I don't want my kid playing pool. And why on a daily basis I think about getting out of it. People only want to play tournaments if they're handicapped and they are getting an edge. And only want to gamble if they're stealing, or for $20.

How this nitty crap is going on i do not understand. I guess the class Gene has is not rubbing off on his protege.

What in the world is going on here?
