GodBless

Hi there Mr Rob,

In our meeting I really enjoyed our conversations. Your a stand up guy and love this game of ours just as much or more than anyone in the world.

I see you have the heart of a lion by watching you play. The road is tough and this may be my last hoorah. But I am going to make the most of it and try to have some fun.

So far this has been allot of fun with Zack and it's only been 4 days so far. He's way ahead of schedule with his game. Can't wait to get a month under his belt.

It's players like yourself that really understand why the great improvement so fast. Not only teaching Zach but starting as many fires as I can with Perfect Aim is very important to me.

I'm not getting rich. The road eats up allot of money but I feel like a pretty lucky guy being able to make such a difference.

Keep up the hard work and your day will come when you will take a short road trip and get a real sense of what it's really like. I know you must take some short trips now like to the tournys.

For me being on the road is like being a little kid and eating ice cream everyday for every meal. it don't get any better than this.

But for most people out there this might not be for them but the short trips can be just as fun.

See you again at the next tourny in the south somewhere someday.

And remember there Mr Rob. When you see a young guy or a friend that is struggling you can always give them a hand with their aim. Once you do this a few times and see the results you'll understand why I enjoy what I do.

Your going to be helping many players before your done.

Keep up the good work there my friend.

Thanks again geno......

Had a tough day but fun..............

Well I let Zack get into a game with a pretty good player from Oklahoma City.

They played some one hole for $50 a game.

It started out pretty tough and after an hour or 2 Zack was stuck 3 or 4 games.

He came over to me and said I need to get him over on the tighter table.

Now this is coming from the guy that hasn't played for 8 months hardly. With three or 4 days under my belt I don't even want the tight table myself.

Well, the move payed off and soon, 3 hours later Zack was 2 games winner and a happy camper. I watch some of the action but not much. I was over on the other side of the room giving lessons.

Manny Perez and his dad Hector were there. Manny will be going to Europe in 2 weeks and they were doing a little fund raising for the trip. They have allot of great instructors here in the Kansas City area that I know have helped him get to where he is at.

First I worked with Hector so he really understood how all this aiming stuff works. He couldn't hardly wait to get Manny on the table so he could see the whole program.

I'm going to tell you what. Every young player needs a dad like hector.
I'm a dad with a son that grew up in this pool world. The time we shared together playing pool and going to tournament I wouldn't trade for anything. I know the bond that they have with this pool will last forever and what a great thing it can be.

I just hope that with my work with Manny that it might just help him win a game or 2.

And when he wins or does really well in Europe I'm not trying to take any credit for how he played but hope my effort will compliment all the hard work around this young man by so many people around him since the beginning. I don't know who they all are but they have done a great job.

Tonight we had some fun and a good workout for Zack...

Headed up to Side Pockets north. Beautiful poolhall and non smoking.

They have a $5 entry 9 ball on Monday night. they match the prize money. race to 3. Short and sweet.

It's good to play in because it simulates being close in a longer race in every match. there is no room for error.

Zack and myself got first and second which paid $135 for both together. So we won as much as we could.

One of the guys stepped up and asked Zack to play some $50 sets. He played pretty good.

The first race to 7 ended up hill hill and Zack asked if he wanted to bet $100 and roll it. He said yes but they raced to 9.

The guy got ahead of Zack 8-6. Zack came through and won the match 13 to 11. Once it got tied up hill hill they both agreed they had to win by 2.

We both got to play some and the workout that Zack got was priceless. This is what a person needs to get ready to play for the big cash or the heavy hitter tournys.

Got a lesson tomorrow and Zack has more action with his friend.

Win or lose this will be good. This guy is playing real good and will push Zack to his top end for sure.

The only time you can practice having your back up against the wall is when your there.

Small victory but a huge step in the right direction. We need to make this a habit. Need to push and need to have someone that can keep the pressure on.

This is the stuff that builds champions. This is what we need to create at the lower level.

I love it. You know in all these years I have NEVER thought about looking at the short races as a simulation of being in a longer race with it being close at the end. What a great way to think of it.

Geno..When that kid gets to where he can beat everybody.Bring him to Houston.I have not played in going on 7 months and I need the practice.I have been woofing at that kid for like the last 3 years.Ha.ha his game has came a long way from when I saw him in Vegas 3 years ago..Tell him David Parker is still woofing.Good luck to y'all on the road. Its always a interesting adventure either way.

Had a great day and night for pool........

First we went to the Brass rail to play in a tounament they have every Tuesday night. 8 ball race to 2 double elim. $5 entry and they match the money.

First was $90 and 2nd was $60. Zack and myself got the top 2 spots. We banks $150 for the night.

Then i took him to Raytown Rec in Raytown Mo. I showed him Big Bertha, the 10 foot Brunswick table built in 1912.

Zacks first words were this is the coolest pool hall I've ever seen. I told him this is how they all used to be. This place is made for survival. it's fuctional and not above it's means.

Zack took on Doug Brink playing some 3 cusion billiards. Doug beat him 30-17 and 20 -14.

On the second set I made a side bet with Zach. I took Doug and bet Zack 20 pushups that he couldn't win. I thought that was a safe bet after seeing the first set.

I went up to Doug and told him that I had a side bet with Zach. I Told Doug he could have half my action on the side bet. I told him it was 20 pushups and he declined. it was kind of funny. i figured if Zach beat him he could help this old guy do the 20 pushups. 10 apiece.

When Zach told Doug he wanted to play some billiards you could see his eyes just light up. Doug loves his 3 cushion billiards.

What a great day and night. At 23 years old Zach is getting to see some things that will be gone someday. The link between now and yesteryears. And Raytown Rec is a blast from the past. just the way it was.

Forgot my cue case at the rec. Called Doug and he put it in the back room for me. No worries there at all.

Hitting the hay. Got to get ready for tomorrow and another adventure.

All I can say about this thread is this. I wish someone would have given me this opportunity before life got in the way.

Gene,
You really should be writing this down in a diary (perhaps as a Word Document) of some sort for your family and friends to read after you are gone. None of us live forever.

These experiences you are sharing with us are priceless even to those who aren't into pool like most of us. I love hearing about the uniqueness of the pool rooms and the highs and lows of "the road".

Thank you for sharing these stories. They are enlightening, entertaining, sobering and very enjoyable.

Fair day but a fun day..........

I went to a little bar and played in a small tourny while Zach went to the poolhall to play a guy he played a couple of nights ago.

They only played $40 sets but Zack won all 3. The guy wanted to raise the bet and get the wild 8. Zack did the right thing and said no because they only had time to play one more set.

I didn't do so good in the little tourny. This place got real loud with Karoke and everyone got real loud and drunk. After being there for an hour I wanted to just leave. Not fun. I ordered some coffee and they put some water in a plastic bar mug to put in the microwave. I told them if they heat the water up in the plastic mug I don't want the coffee. The karoke guy assured me that the mugs were micro safe. Sure thing buddy. She put the water in a glass and microed it for about 15 minutes I think. I went back over to see what the holdup was and there was only about 1/2 inch of water left in the glass. I went next door to Qwik Trip to get some coffee.

Had a ball skid on an almost straight in shot to get in the losers and then I kicked the 8 ball off another ball 2 rails and made it and scratched on a freaky kiss. The guy jumped up and said that was the best shot he had ever seen. Ran around telling everyone.

All together with table time and gas we held our own with the road.

Now there is a Thanksgiving tourny tomorrow at the Flamingo. $35 entry fee. Race to 5 double elim alternate break.

We will play in that and then the next day head up to St Josephs for a three day event up there 30 miles north of KC.

Gonna be allot of fun. Zach is in top punch. I'm not so much. Havn't played much in the last 3 or 4 days plus being pretty sick.

Zack just caught the stupid cold that I've been fighting for 10 days.

It starts in your sinuses and works it's way down to your chest. I know what Zack is in for. This is really tough being on the road. The nice thing about having 2 people that can play is that one can still get out and make expenses. I can still teach not feeling good but it's hard to perform on the table. Especially if there is smoke.

I hope St Josephs tourny is smoke free.

In for 4 days of tough competition and fun.

Plus we can stay there for a few days after and do some Perfect aim lessons.

And get someone to match up with Zach .

This might sound stupid but you might consider trying to wear a facial mask with a good filter. We use them at work when we are working with anything that has fumes. Although we ventilate I have told everyone that if we can smell it then we can breathe it. Perhaps a mask would help you although I think that maybe the appearance might shark you and your opponents.

This is what I mean:

If it's any consolation Ike Runnels did play at some event also wearing one.

:-)

I wore one at Shooter in Olathe about 3 years ago.

Ike was the guy that turned me onto it. It worked pretty good. I didn't think it was until I took it off in the car and I got kind of a sick feeling in my stomach from the smell on my clothes.

I still ended up with problems though.

It was like now I'm just getting poisoned a little instead of allot.

My nose still got plugged real bad so i had trouble sleeping with my sleep apnea machine.

If I can't breath through my nose I can't sleep.

The way I sleep now is I use allot of antihistamine spray before I go to bed. If the lungs hurt I'm just screwed anyway. If I have to play the next day in the tourny I'm screwed because I still couldn't sleep.

It's not just me that this bothers so bad but many players. I get so I don't even smell the smoke sometimes because my nose is so screwed up I can't smell. But if I've been out of the smoke for about a week it's just overwhelming when I walk into it that first day. Kind of get that sick feeling right away.

If I'm in it everyday I just get used to feeling sick all the time and it just seems normal.

How sad......

Get it right America..42,000 documented deaths per year from second hand smoke...................

Well in China they smoke so much in the pool room that it's like London fog. In fact they still smoke over the pool tables here while shooting and no one says a word.

I just don't understand why room owners can't figure out how to ventilate properly. But this is going to turn into an anti-smoking thread and we will lose the project reports.

Sorry but your health is secondary to us getting out action report fix. :-)

Ohhh c'mon Geno there is a reason they call those years at the end the Kavorkian years!!!!!

Plus in this economy most of us will be working right up to the day we kick the bucket anyway.....

Seriously tho... It's no fun for even the smokers in some places... I am a smoker but I keep working on not being one and the main place I used to play was so bad I couldn't stand to smell the stuff on me when I was a contributor.....

Goldenseal and echinacea are supposed to help... heard that for about 10 things now but who knows.... http://betterbreathers.com help some =) There are a few others on the market working on the same premise.....

Peace out,
Chris

dohhhh I just saw they come in small medium and LARGE.... You know for when you are out on the road and someone gets your nose open good and wide =)

I already figured that out............

Hi there Chris,

I already bought the large. Got my nose opened up a little about a week ago.

Now I know why the nostrils looked so big.

After I heal up I'll probably need only a medium, maybe a small.

Hate to keep losing just so the nose things fit.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends here on AZ

Hope you all have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Zach and myself are playing pool and eating turkey today also.

Maybe even some pumpkin pie if they have any at the Flamingo.

Tip of the day...........

Don't overeat toooooooo much.;)

So I guess you will be at the tournament in St Josephs, this weekend. I sure hope it is NO smoking venue. If I buy you in the Calcutta will you show up for your match this time?

thanks

Who are you?

You should probably not bid in any calcutta Mr. Passive Aggressive

I have been directing tournaments, bidding in Calcutta's, and backing players about 15 years longer than you have been on the planet.

Besides the fact that I am very lucky in player auctions, it is very seldom I do not win money in them.

Hopefully Gene will be feeling better this weekend as I will be in St Joseph tomorrow night for the Calcutta, if I make it back from STL.
