Build a champion in a month or 2. Is this possible?

Isn't it hard to make a living on the road playing 7 ahead sets? Seems like the only one to get rich that way will be the house.

Hell no.... The better player is almost always going to get the money and if you have a good side better with you you can get way more rail action than playing races. 7 aheads are too short, IMO, i think 8 should be the minimum. 8 to 10 ahead is the best action. On the road, races may be the worst way to make money.

I'm taking a player that I worked with about 2 1/2 years ago and having him come on the road with me. He's taken some road trips himself but I don't think they were very successful.

Do you think this can be done. Why or why not? :idea2:

Sure it's possible, Fast Eddie did it with Vincent and they were only on the road for a few months!

I bought one about 2 months ago and your right......

I use the Ninja, that my son bought as a present. It's not really a juicer as much as it is an unbelievable blender. I use mostly fruit but throw some veggies in and add either juice or ice cubes to thin the concoction. I had a juicer but it separated the pulp and the juice and I personally like the pulp and think it's good for you. :grin-square: I got rid of the juicer and find the Ninja good for making what I call SMOOTHIES. Too thick? Just add water or juice.

The motor is strong and the blades are sharp and durable. They can make ice cubes into a snowball in seconds. http://www.ninjakitchen.com/productListing.shtml

It's the nutz there Joey. your right.

I'm going to start my regiment the 26th . Should be interesting to say the least.

Thanks

Anythings possible in the movies..........

Sure it's possible, Fast Eddie did it with Vincent and they were only on the road for a few months!

On the road like we are can be pretty challenging. How many times did you see Vincent wash his clothes or try to play after getting woke up all night because of noisy people in the motel.

Zack and myself are the real deal. We do this because we enjoy it and if nothing happens from this other than fun that's OK.

I enjoy sharing the things that happen. For one thing if anyone ever wants to go on the road for awhile they know some of the downfalls plus ways to save money and time.

Many of the things that I am teaching Zach are the same reasons that most road players end up on a very short road and broke. It usually has nothing to do with how well you play but how you manage everything.

And of course if you don't play at a higher level it's going to be real rough because that limits who you can play.

We're going to lay back for a few days and enjoy our families. Plus, Zack and myself are having a little contest to see how much we can pump up our bankroll over the holidays.

Around the 7th or 8th of January it's up, up, and away again.

I'm pretty sure that the lessons that Zach has learned in the last few months will stick with him.

On the way back to Wisconsin we were going to stop at a tourny and see what was going on. Zach says to me, I'm pretty tired, Do you think it's a good idea? That was music to my ears.

He's understanding that he is not superman. His tired game is about 2 balls less than his fresh game.

He's learning but at 23 the message has to be immediate and strong. it doesn't get any stronger than on the road right after it happens and then you get confronted about it. It's hard to deny what has just happened being so fresh in the mind.

Zach probably blew about $5000 in the last month from mistakes. Not that he lost that much but he cost us that much by not taking down the action that was available at the time.

Being on the road is like being a professional baseball player. You have to play everyday and you need to stay at your most tip top shape. You have a day off here and there but if you don't perform you can lose.

I wonder if baseball would be played a little bit different if the player got paid each day by what they did that day.

Team wins you get paid. Lose you get nothing.

With the setback we had here and the lessons to learn the time line for building a champion will be a little behind schedule. But i will tell you this.

In a month or so it they better play awful good or they better keep their cue in the case when I bring Zach around.

Merry Christmas everyone and I hope everyones Christmas is a winner.

Thanks for all the support for Zach and myself.

Go easy, at first. Being on the road, good bathrooms are hard to find sometimes.

Nutrition IS what you're missing, my friend, imho. It is the Perfect Aim of healthcare. ;)

Before you buy a Ninja, check into a refurbished Vitamix 5200. They are a little spendy for a blender, but it gives the Ninja the ORANGE CRUSH . I have both and there is no comparison.

Merry Christmas Geno and Zach!

I think I've seen those vitamix 5200's demonstrated at Whole Foods and they are excellent but a little pricey. You can't put a price on health but I'm not sure one will make you healthier than the other.

I always thought a juicer was somebody that drank more than me!

Seriously, I hope everybody has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Funny most of the old road players I was around didn't eat but maybe one meal a day if that. I was off with a guy once and I suggested we get something to eat after a 400 mile run and he said he had a policy of no eating until we made a score, and was serious. It was one of the Beards favorite people, Junior Sweatmon. One of the most hard core hustlers to ever live, and is one of the few to have plenty of money and never did anything else.

My old hustlin' buddy and I had that way of doing it, on a smaller scale, though, as we mostly worked bars around the area for bets made.

We'd not eat until we made a score, too. He said being hungry made him play better, and I think he is right. Low blood sugar is a problem, but like any animal on the hunt, something about hunger triggers the mind to focus like no other thing could.

No pitch for Chinese Herbs???

Well I didn't get my lesson. Pool hall got a little to crazy, and Geno was only here for a day or two. The little he showed me seems to have helped, but I definitely want to learn more! Do only to some christmas obligations I missed out on my chance to learn more the next day!

Gene is a class act, bar none! Even while being heckled by a guy that was a little sauced up, he never lost a beat, or his cool. He really is in the process of something special here, and although I only got to see a small glimpse of it, it was very awesome to see none the less.

Zach is a good kid. He definitely has huge potential. The kid has a demeanor about him, that he can kick your ass for a couple of hours and you still wouldn't mind buying him a beer when all is said and done. I'm not sure how long it will take to make him a champion, but he has the biggest part of it going for him, DESIRE. I don't know how many of you folks have met this kid, but he is right on track with becoming a great person, and pool player. If Gene can get him off the energy drinks, on a regular diet, and schedule, there really is no telling what this young man will do. I think with in the next year or two, if he sticks with what Gene is showing him, I wouldn't be surprised at all, to see him mixing it up with the big dogs.

All in all, these two guys are good people, with a very cool thing going. If reading this thread, or meeting them in person can't ignite a passion/interest in pool, I'm not sure what can.

Thanks again Gene,

Justin Hanson

P.S. If you head anywhere near this area again, give me a heads up. I want that lesson still!

I used to do that as well and for the same reason. Also being full makes you sluggish. Even now I don't really like to eat before I am going to play a long session. But I will juice up on veggie juice though, nature's energy drink!!

Being diabetic really teaches a person to be aware of your body and the reactions from the food.

When I reach a point where the blood sugar is almost too low is when I am like superman focused. If I could keep it right there it would be so awsome.

Unfortunately I have to eat and the juggling act begins again with the blood sugar. Kind of like a yoyo. Up and down.

The same thing happens with a healthy person though. Eat a bunch of carbs and the blood sugar spikes making us sluggish.

A pool player can eat and not effect their game by not loading up on the carbs. Some are OK but a burger with the bun and french fries are a recipe for disaster right before of during a pool match.

Every pool player needs to know how to count carbs. This will help them understand their body more and keep them from sabataging their own game.

Good point and insight there Mr Jeff...........

I know Zach and Gene a little bit and have played both of them before ( Gene beat me 7 -0 in a small tourney ) and have witnessed Zachs progress since he was around 18 or so at the Dr Pool tourneys here in WI. Hes improved a lot and I am sure working with Gene and going on the road is gonna do nothing but help. I love reading this diary of there day to day pool gambling experiences and cant wait til they get back on the road! Genes a supernice guy and Zachs cool also I agree with your comment he could beat your ass but you still feel like buying him a beer afterwards!

BTW Zach has Johnny Fields to thank for this he knocked Zach out of a 9ball tourney in Oshkosh a few months ago, Zach quit his job the very next day and made up his mind to hit the road lol great story continued success to you both!

I like the cold pressed juice at Whole Foods. One of the veggie juices is called THE ALTERNATIVE FUEL. :D
