Building out the slate liners to match slate pocket cut.

Guys, when ever you run into a table that the slate pocket cuts extend past the slate backer it's not hard or to time consuming to correct if done right.

The fix is to glue and staple 1/16" x 3/4" strips of pine wood to the short backing as to build it out flush with the slate edge so the balls quit cutting through the cloth when being pocketed.

When you're done, the finished table looks much better. I also had to replace the Brunswick Super Speed cushions with new Super Speeds, but the old cushions were only 1 1/16" wide, new cushions are 1 3/16ths so I had to use my new tooling to cut back the sub-rails in order for them to fit correctly. This is a Brunswick Madison built back in the early 70's so the Super Speed cushions back then are different than they are today.

I like the idea Mark Gregory had that we've talked about, two toning the pockets by using Black cloth for the liners instead of the same color of cloth on the bed of the table, might have to try that to see how it looks:D

actually I am working on a pocket insert that won't have to be stapled etc. OMG I let the cat out of the bag

sweet fix! gonna have to use this one as well. Thanks for sharing
Rob

I have an advantage that no other mechanic has, and that's in the fact that when I'm at someone's house working on their pool table, because of my truck, I'm also at home, all I do is plug in my long extension cord for power and I can cook, watch movies on my TV, get on the computer etc... and it's because of that reason that I take what ever time it takes to work on a table to get as much corrected as I can, because I don't have to leave to go home, then come back the next day if I can't get everything done in one day. And I realize for most, I have an unfair advantage because of my truck so when I take a few days to work on a pool table it's because I'm NOT in a rush. But keep in mind also that it's a totally different lifestyle that wouldn't fit most of the mechanics in this country, because in order to live life this way, you pretty much have to give up on all the nice things in life that you'd normally work for like a home, cars, big screen TV's and the whole lot. But it's because I'm such a loaner it's easy for me to live this lifestyle and I wouldn't trade it for the world:D Which is also why I share so much of the things I've learned as a mechanic with all of you other mechanics, so as to maybe make some of your jobs a little easier, or better, or simpler, because I've already been there and done that.

If I could wish for anything, I think I'd wish I could take all of you on the road with me for a couple of weeks at a time as to be able to spend more time with each of you on a more personal level, that way we could all work on getting better on an equal basis:D

Great Glen!
If you are near the left coast again and it's a 3-day weekend, let us know.

Glen I would go on the road but you have to promise no farts

I think that last post was the best one you ever wrote

I agree with OTLB on that one, well said. Glen, you know I am in. The only hitch is the schedule but I will gladly move work around to make it work.

I have actually thought about doing black for the liners also, but never tried. Great work as always. It's obvious your making people very jealous.

Damn, I thought that was my idea. ;) We do a fair amount of two-tone tables for sports fans. Ohio State colors are real popular here obviously. Grey bed and Burgundy rails with Burgundy cuffs, or the other way around. I wish I'd have taken pictures. I'll have to the next time we do one.
