I use a little amonnia on a paper towel. Then burnish with a piece of leather. Then I SEAL the edge with super glue gel. I've been doing it that way for 20 years...JER

I've been repairing Qs since 1984 & I thought I had always used SUPER GLUE GEL. Maybe I used the thinner super glue in the earlier years??????? My mind is not what it used to be, that's for sure...JER

Another Qmaker had told me he was using the ammonia. He said he was getting better results, than using good ol' spit. I tryed it & agreed & have been using it ever since. As far as melting ferrules goes, may I suggest using short pulses of pressure. It gets the job done without the melting...JER

As far as amonia on the leather, it will make it very, very stiff.

If you want to form a piece of leather to something, soak the leather in amonia over night and form it to the shpae you wish.

When it dries, it will be that shape permanently.

Didn't know that. I'll try it out for sure though...

By the way, I use just a little spit for dense tips like Le Pro or Moori and I use superglue gel for tips wich are very brittle (Talisman, Triangle or Tiger). It holds the leather together in a much nicer way.
