I use a little amonnia on a paper towel. Then burnish with a piece of leather. Then I SEAL the edge with super glue gel. I've been doing it that way for 20 years...JERstix4sale said:anybody ever try using super glue gel to burnish side of tip?

I've been repairing Qs since 1984 & I thought I had always used SUPER GLUE GEL. Maybe I used the thinner super glue in the earlier years??????? My mind is not what it used to be, that's for sure...JERthecyclone@btin said:not tryin to nit pic but super glue GEL has not been ut 20yrs!
Another Qmaker had told me he was using the ammonia. He said he was getting better results, than using good ol' spit. I tryed it & agreed & have been using it ever since. As far as melting ferrules goes, may I suggest using short pulses of pressure. It gets the job done without the melting...JERstix4sale said:hi jer, what does the ammonia do? clean it? could i use alcohol?
problem i'm having is these cheap chinese ferruled cues. when i burnish tips, maybe i'm getting them too hot. the ferrule will melt. brent
Mr. Wilson said:As far as amonia on the leather, it will make it very, very stiff.
If you want to form a piece of leather to something, soak the leather in amonia over night and form it to the shpae you wish.
When it dries, it will be that shape permanently.
