business=tips and ferrules

do any of you guys solicite the pool halls for there tip and ferrule work? ie pick-up 15 to 20 sticks at a time and return next day? do you think it can be a viable business? thanks bugsy:) :rolleyes:
 
I used to, but it's boring, and I didn't have the heart to gouge them hard enough (charged $3.50/tip) to make it worth my time.
 
I work with 3 rooms. I do their customer's cue work. The volume is very low, so its usually just a few jobs a week for me, if that. The arrangement I have is for them to call me when a job comes in, and then I pick it up and return it the following couple of days. If I didn't like going to the places to play pool anyway, it wouldn't be worth the time.

My wife & I used to do about 1000 repairs a year. The majority came from one company that placed tables in bars. They would drop off 200-300 bar Qs at a time. I used to charge then $4 per tip & $10 per ferrule. He went out of business a few years ago. It was nice while it lasted...JER
 
I used to do the same as Jer. I did a vending companies tips. They would drop off 100 or so and was ok in money. Problem I had was a guy that worked for them said he would do it for half the cash, so they went with him. Wasn't a few months later they called back and wanted to drop me off like 400 to retip. I respectfully said no thanks and I think they knew why. But if you can find the right place and do quality work , I would say go for it. Is a nice way to make extra income when needed. Gets you lot's of practice also.Just make sure you know what you are doing before you take the repair, nothing worse then experimenting on someones thousand dollar cue and saying -OOPS- Just a word of caution.

I still do it for a very few local rooms. I have a stellar youngster who comes in on the weekend & does nothing but house cue retips.:) I kick it all to him & he puts some heart into it....makes me proud.:)
 
You should try some Super Pro's for these. I have about 2000 tips in stock if you need some.
 
i do all the work in my local rooms too.

house cues are a pain. i get $5 a tip and $10 a ferrule but it isnt worth it

plus customer repairs
